By Scott Bernstein Jul 24, 2015 8:20 am PDT

UPDATE #3: Rogers Waters has joined My Morning Jacket on stage for his headlining set. Members of Lucious are also sitting in (they appeared for part of MMJ’s set at well).

UPDATE #2: My Morning Jacket’s surprise Newport Folk Festival appearance tonight has been confirmed. They took the stage just after 5:30 p.m. ET filling a slot on the schedule that had previously been listed as “Unannounced.” There’s no word yet if they will also perform as Roger Waters’ backing band.

UPDATE: From the looks of the photo below it looks like Waters and MMJ will team up once more tonight in Newport (Hat Tip -Scott Marks):

One of the highlights of October ’12’s Love For Levon all-star tribute to the late The Band drummer in New Jersey was when Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters teamed up with My Morning Jacket towards the end of the evening. With Roger set to return to the stage tonight for a special set at the Newport Folk Festival and MMJ in the area before they play Camden, New Jersey tomorrow we can’t help but think of that magical night at the Izod Center in East Rutherford.

Before Love For Levon’s grand finale of “Wide River To Cross” and “The Weight,” Waters and My Morning Jacket teamed up with The Levon Helm Band’s horn section and guitarist G.E. Smith for a rousing rendition of “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” Watch pro-shot footage of how it went down:

Waters is one of many artists set to play the opening day of the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island today.
