The Grateful Dead first played MSG on January 7, 1979 for the first of 52 performances at “the world’s greatest arena.” According to a New York Post article from 2006, the Grateful Dead were set to be inducted into the Walk Of Fame in the ’90s but Garcia’s death postponed the honor. Legendary Rangers goalie Eddie Giacomin, ex-Knicks forward Harry Gallatin and photographer George Kalinsky will also be inducted into the Walk Of Fame on Monday.
MSG’s Walk Of Fame was established in 1992 to “recognize performers, athletes, announcers, and coaches who demonstrated excellence at their craft in The Garden at various times throughout their extraordinary careers” on the walkway leading to the venue.
