Organizers for the Summer Camp Music Festival have confirmed founding Ween guitarist Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman will front Umphrey’s McGee for a set at the Midwestern fest. The 15th Annual Summer Camp Music Festival takes place at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois over Memorial Day weekend May 22 -24.

UM’s alter ego GODBONER and Gener will join forces for a set of Ween originals and select covers dubbed GODBONER Meets Gene Ween. Additionally, Summer Camp added a special Make a Difference Everyone Orchestra Concert, with proceeds going to the fest’s non-profit and charitable drives. Van Ghost, Spread, the Summer Camp: On The Road Tour Winners and others were also added to the festival lineup.
Earlier today organizers announced an official Summer Camp All Stars pre-party taking place in Chicago the weekend prior to the festival. The Summer Camp All Stars feature festival performers Umphrey’s McGee drummer Kris Myers, Digital Tape Machine guitarist Marcus Rezak and The Motet keyboardist Joey Porter and bassist Garrett Sayers. Summer Camp will feature appearances by Widespread Panic, moe. Umphrey’s McGee, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, STS9, Big Gigantic and many others. The festival will also host a series of special Grateful Dead tributes in honor of the band’s 50th anniversary, special late night sets and a pre-party on Thursday May, 21. Check out the Summer Camp entry in the newly redesigned JamBase Festival Guide.
Umphrey’s has twice previously covered songs from Ween’s repertoire, once performing “It’s Gonna Be A Long Night” in 2008 and “Freedom of ‘76” in 2012.
