The Allman Brothers Band To Tour This Fall

Tomorrow night the Allman Brothers Band will kick off what may be the group’s final residency at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Earlier this year Derek Trucks & Warren Haynes announced their intention to leave the band at the end of the year and Gregg Allman followed that up by telling Relix the group will be done at the end of the year. We’ve been pondering what’s in store for the Allmans in 2014 and a just-published interview gives us a glimpse.

Allman Brothers Band expert Alan Paul penned a Beacon preview for the Wall Street Journal with a line that reads, “the group will play festivals throughout the spring and summer and is working on still-unannounced fall dates.” We’re glad to see fans will continue to have opportunities to see the group before either they part ways for good or continue on without Derek & Warren. But wait…didn’t Gregg Allman say 2014 would be it? In reading the preview Paul wrote, which features quotes from drummer Butch Trucks, the band’s manager and other Allman insiders, the writer makes it clear there’s no official word yet. Here’s the text, “The group hasn’t officially announced its future plans, and the three founding members who will decide— Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks and fellow drummer Jaimoe—declined to comment on the topic.”

We’ll soon find out what the future holds for the Allman Brothers Band, but we’re just excited to enjoy the upcoming March Madness run.
