The Police Announce Worldwide Concert Tour and New Fan Club

The Police at 2007 Grammy Awards
By Kevin Mazur
Following an electrifying performance at The Whisky on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip, The Police today confirmed their highly anticipated concert tour will begin on May 28 in Vancouver, playing arenas, some stadiums and making some special appearances throughout North America. The announcement was made via live webcast from the Whisky in L.A. Monday, February 12. If you missed it, watch the tour announcement webcast direct at ThePoliceTour.com!

Some of the North American tour highlights announced include a headline performance at this year’s June 16 Bonnaroo Festival, an appearance at Boston’s historic Fenway Park on July 28 and two Madison Square Garden performances in New York City on August 1 and 3. Concert dates were also confirmed in Seattle, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, New Orleans, St. Louis, Toronto and Montreal.

Arthur Fogel, Live Nation Chairman of Global Music, also announced that the tour will continue this fall with dates in the UK and Europe, including appearances in Holland, Germany, Italy and France with additional countries to be announced. Additional dates in Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are anticipated. “The anticipation and excitement to see The Police is overwhelming and I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of bringing the band to their fans worldwide,” said Mr. Fogel.

Members of The Police Tour Fan Club will have the chance to access members-only ticket presales. You must be a member to participate in the presale. Join The Police Tour Fan Club now and have the chance to get your tickets before the public. Members will also have access to the members-only Message Boards and will receive an exclusive fan club premium item. For more details go www.thepolicetour.com/signup.

The Police Tour Fan Club ticket holds for the tour are strong in terms of both quantity and quality and we hope that as many fan club members as possible get seats to the show they would like to attend. Although shows in large metropolitan areas (in particular the New York shows at Madison Square Garden) always tend to be very popular and are expected to sell out very quickly.

Special guest Fiction Plane will join The Police for the North American portion of the tour. Known for their high-energy live shows, this dynamic rock trio will be releasing their second full length album in May. Fiction Plane are: Joe Sumner (bass); Seton Daunt (guitar); Pete Wilhoit (drums). Additional support artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

A portion of the proceeds from this tour will be donated to WaterAid, an international NGO founded in 1981 and dedicated to reducing poverty by improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education. Working in 17 of the world’s poorest countries, WaterAid and its partners have already helped over 10 million people gain access to water and sanitation and is committed to helping to reduce by half the proportion of people living without these basic necessities of life by 2015.

Tickets for the North American leg of The Police tour will go on sale to the public beginning this Saturday, February 17 in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. Tickets in Boston and New York City will go on sale Tuesday, February 20. Additional on sale dates to be announced. There will be a four ticket limit per person for all arena shows and a 6 ticket limit per person for the stadium events.

The Police Wow Grammy Awards with Roxanne
Set to Headline Bonnaroo

The Police
As is being reported at Billboard.com, The Police will set out on their first tour in 23 years. The run will begin May 28 at GM Arena in Vancouver and will hit major international arenas and stadiums through the end of the year, including a headline spot at Bonnaroo on June 16.

The tour announcement comes in the wake of The Police’s inspired performance of “Roxanne” last night to open the Grammy Awards on CBS. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are The Police and we’re back,” Sting said as the group kicked into the song.

Tickets for the tour will be scaled primarily at $225, $90 and $50. Tickets for Vancouver, Toronto (July 22) and Montreal (July 25) will go on sale February 17. Other markets, including Boston and New York (August 1 and 3), will go on sale February 20. Ticketmaster will offer a pre-sale through a new Police tour website a few days prior to the general public onsales.

Further details of the tour will be announced today (February 12) during a press conference at the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

Bandleader Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland split ways in 1984 following the release of their most successful album, Synchronicity, although they regrouped for a handful of concerts in 1986 before breaking up for good.
