In a handful of interviews over the past few years Gregg Allman has stated a goal of recording a new studio album filled with original material. Gregg has even put a tentative title out there, All Compositions By Gregg Allman. However little word had been shared about his progress on the LP. Today there’s big news not only about the album, but also on Allman’s exciting plans for 2016.
The guitarist for Gregg’s stellar solo band, Scott Sharrard, spoke with Glide Magazine for a just-published feature. Sharrard reveals a handful of noteworthy tidbits. Scott told Glide that Gregg Allman and his band are booked to enter the legendary Fame Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with producer Don Was in March. The producer was on hand for the band’s recent rehearsals are they worked on new material. We worked up a bunch of new songs and we’re ready to go in the studio pretty much,” Sharrard said.
Scott Sharrard also broke the news that Gregg Allman and his band will embark on a co-headlining tour with ZZ Top this summer. Last summer the group hit the road with The Doobie Brothers for a similar jaunt. Finally, the guitarist also revealed that Gregg will bring back the Laidback Festival which was first held at Jones Beach last summer. Sharrard said we can “expect to see a few of those” in reference to the Laidback Festival. Head to Glide Magazine for much more from Scott Sharrard.
