Last year, Kung Fu’s holiday spectacular raised more than $3,000 in new and unwrapped toys that were hand delivered by the band on Christmas Eve Day to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. This year the band hopes to double the take and distribute toys to Bridgeport and Hartford counties as well.
Kung Fu has enlisted the electronic duo Break Science featuring Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee.
In addition, Kung Fu will again bring back the “Dojo Horns.” Last year the section featured Jennifer Hartswick on trumpet (Trey Anastasio Band) along with the band’s own Rob Somerville. This year Kung Fu will be joined by multiple Grammy Award winning saxophonist Bill Evans (Soulgrass/Miles Davis/John Mcloughlin and Rob Vollo (Deep banana Blackout). Other surprise guests are expected to join Kung Fu throughout the night and Connecticut/Rhode Island-based jamband Viral Sound will open. DJs tweening sets, hoopers, live art installations and ticket giveaways will complete the party.
Tickets can be purchased through Toad’s Place at the box office or online at http://www.toadsplace.com. Guests can receive half price admission on day-of-show tickets by bringing a new and unwrapped toy to the concert.
