DAUGHTERS Kickoff Tour of Japan TONIGHT

Providence masters of discomfort, DAUGHTERS, will be kicking off their first ever tour of Japan TONIGHT, and have also announced a full U.S. tour, obliterating the West Coast with THE LOCUST and CATTLE DECAPITATION, inspiring drug induced orgies on their East Coast romp with CHINESE STARS, and blowing minds in the South with PELICAN and RUSSIAN CIRCLES! All this in support of their debut full-length Hell Songs out August 8 2006 on Hydra Head!

"Galaxies heavier than its predecessor" - CMJ

"The band manages to express musically in a short timespan what many bands of this genre don't in their entire career." - Lambgoat

"Daughters split the difference between Hella and the Locust into tiny little pieces before eating the pieces, barfing them up and then eating them again." - PaperThinWalls.com

"Led by monstrous drums, metal vocals, and a general vibe of unrelenting chaos, the quintet of Alexis Marshall (vocals), Brent Frattini (guitar), Jon Syverson (drums), Nicholas Andrew Sadler (guitar), and Samuel Moorehouse Walker (bass), unleash the fury on their latest album, Hell Songs." - Spin.com

"The quintet plays less grind and more plodding doom-core (read: an amphetamine-charged Arab-on-Radar). They still sound like Daughters, but even more chaotic." - Decibel Magazine

Providence, RI's DAUGHTERS, are back with the follow-up to their Canada Songs album Robotic Empire, 2003) entitled Hell Songs, an entirely new approach to music in general. After their last U.S .tour with epic instrumental-rock masters, Red Sparrowes and Pelican and giving new meaning to the word brutal, DAUGHTERS have expanded their minds and abilities, introducing unholy and outrageous new elements to their sound, leaving behind whatever could be considered typical within their genre, and fitting in perfectly to the monstrous Hydra Head roster. At times sounding like label-mates Oxbow or cult-legends Arab-on-Radar (on steroids), Hell Songs hits like a Mac Truck, pummeling its listener in a way that is, to-date, unmatched.

"What the fuck you guys? The vocals: What happened to them?"
- A fan posting on Daughters' MySpace page

After staking out a reasonably comfortable bus-stop bench near the same wretched intersection where Lightning Bolt, the Locust, Oxbow and the Dillinger Escape Plan work their filthy corners, Providence, Rhode Island's Daughters slowly unzipped and whipped out 2003's Canada Songs (Robotic Empire). The art-school kids shit themselves; Some Girls, Melt Banana and Doomriders went on tour with them, and the dudes over at Three One G asked them to cover a Birthday Party song ("Marry Me (Lie! Lie!)") for a tribute compilation (Release the Bats). Last but not least, the pimps at Hydra Head came calling for sloppy seconds. They brought a bottle of Cristal, a pile of limited-edition colored vinyl and some Astroglide; pants were charmed down to at least knee-level, and nine months later, a misshapen fetus called Hell Songs was delivered by Andrew Schneider (Scissorfight, Blue Man Group, Cave In, Keelhaul).

Within seconds, it began sucking greedily at the teat of mass dissemination. It was an ugly little bastard, with an encephalitic head, and it looked suspiciously like the mailman. It shit its pants a lot, just like those goddamn art school kids, and it would not fucking shut up. So, like the socially responsible parents they are, Daughters sent it out into the world to become a twitchy, axe murderer/chronic masturbator type with a veritable laundry list of physical and mental deficiencies. Nobody hires fidgety miscreants like this anymore (not even Catholic schools), so Hell Songs returned to that wretched intersection, looking vaguely familiar to the locals, only sweatier and more viciously deranged.

Sometimes that bus stop becomes too much to withstand; sometimes he/she drinks too much and puts the lotion in the basket. Sometimes he/she forgets to take his/her medication. But that's okay; there are some things modern medicine will never cure. He/she is looking at you right now, as a matter of fact, and he/she thinks you're kind of cute.

god damnit! The Locust just has to come to the right coast eventually, I've been dieing to see them. btw, how many of you folks out there have seen daughters, and if you have, what's the fanbase like?

no, they arent jambands. not hardly. i love jambands and i love grind and metal and stuff like that too and these guys are grind. they would rip a hole in any jamband.

i've seen daughters. they masturbated on stage, it was interesting. their fanbase are either really smart artsy people or scene kids, more than likely not straight edge.

haha I just listened to daughters. Sounds like a cleaner, less insane variation on the locust. I love grindcore and noisecore and have been to my fare share of grindcore shows, but I am having trouble figuring out how this got on jambase, haha. I'm not complaining though because I just found a bunch of new bands to listen to after reading the article.

Masturbation on stage? Does the front row where garbage bags to preserve their clothing? Always wondered when some band would incorporate elements of the Gallagher comedy routine. Fruit = Semen ???

i'm not only a jam fan but a huge metal head as well and I love how they added more diversity here. at the same time, i hate this band, they sound like every other crazy 60-second-maximum hardcore group. and yes, i said hardcore, they're no where close to true grindcore. that is all.

and i dont mean to disagree with Guanoskimer here, i just think real grindcore is stuff like Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Nasum, Napalm Death, etc.

Henrock- I'm not that educated in the field of grindcore anyways. I listen to a select few hardcore bands that I'm pretty sure are under the category of grindcore; Between The Buried and Me, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Red Chord, The Locust (I'm assuming this is really noisecore). Would you say they are grindcore? just wanna make sure i've got the (blank)core distinctions down.

haha dude you like good music, BTBAM are one of my favorites. I'd say theres really no way to categorize BTBAM but that's my opinion, i've heard others call it metalcore which seems to generic for BTBAM. same with Dillinger, can't really categorize them either. The Red Chord are just like the previous two but more metalcore i guess. as for the locust, yeah theyre noisecore. But I can def understand how you would categorize BTBAM and Red as grindcore.

BTW If you wanna find out how to categorize/find out more about your favorite metal bands or just metal bands you've heard of, you can find it ALL at http://www.metal-archives.com/
this damn webpage has every freakin metal band i've ever heard of, there's probably not one metal group out there you won't find on this site, it's pretty insane

haha awesome man, I'll def. check that out. Yeah, BTBAM are motherfuckers for sure! I've seen em a couple times and it's just raw energy, especially when they play mordecai or lost perfection a) coulrophobia. I saw them open for Dillinger and I couldn't believe I thought BTBAM was intense after I saw dillinger. Whole fuckin venue was RAGING and I had the chance to be right up front. The singer was going insane. Can you believe the good vibes you get even when a whole crowd is massacring each other?

face it, metal is a new realm of jam. when you go see bands like dillenger, daughters, bttbam, high on fire isis, mastodon, meshuggah,an albatross, napalm death, gojira, etc. these guys are up there puttin in the same amount of energy that bands like moe and SCI do (aside from playing two sets). when i saw mastodon play "colony of birchmen" live, i got just as swept up in a groove as i did when i saw phish play "the wolfman's brother" back in 97.

now it's understandable that some of this is too heavy for some people and thats cool but in the past two years out here in philly, i've been seeing a lot of the same peopleat concerts for mastodon, teeth of the hydra, in flames, the sword, isis, that i've seen at concerts for keller, SCI, yonder mountain, and WSP etc and what they love is how the artists have such an amazing form yet are so free with how they play. if that's not "jam", then i dont know what is. it's really amazing to have been seeing these two crowds come together and i think that jambase is just as much as an appropraite place for a bands like the red chord as it is for david grisman.

yes they masterbated on stage, no garbage bags though. the dont shoot it just sorta sling it a bit. whether they do that anymore or not i dont know.

yes they are grindcore. pig destroyer is not grindcore, grindcore is the locust and daughters and the saw tooth grin and genghis tron. pig destroyer is shitty metal. BTBAM is amazing metal. The Red Chord is amazing metal/hardcore.

celebrate diversity people. the site alone with all the jamband and underground sites were made to celebrate the diversity society wouldnt and now we are our own society pushing others away. stop with the ignorance.

i had a band, and the lead singer and guitar player's brother was a lead singer in a band. well the kids brother recorded down in new jersery and ended up meeting these dudes. i guess they were real assholes. the music they make its pretty tight musically. personally i dont like them most of the time. its purely on a mood basis.i was into shit like that when i was younger. now, my taste in music has moved on.

typicalcity- that is most definetly your opinion. in fact i respect you for sharing your opinion on that cause ur the only person that i've ever heard say that Pig Destroyer are not grindcore but just shitty metal. now i love btbam and red chord but if u think pig destroyer are shitty, that just goes to show that ur probably one of those xcore faggots that just needs those fucking overused breakdowns that every band like red chord and btbam have (i.e. everyone on headbangers ball). just for you information, dude, headbangers ball doesnt cover the whole metal realm.

that being said, i dont mean to be a dick its just that you shat all over my previous post. peace hombre.
