Aidan & Bobby Seeger Jr. by Joe Russo
On August 11, 2011, Buckcherry played a benefit gig for a special little 7-year-old boy named Aidan Seeger. The band came off tour, on their own dime for this special event, to raise money for Aidan’s mounting medical bills and to raise awareness about his rare disease know as ALD [Adrenoleukodystrophy].

ALD is a rare, inherited disorder that leads to progressive brain damage, failure of the adrenal glands and eventually death. ALD is a disease in a group of genetic disorders called leukodystrophies. Adrenoleukodystrophy progressively damages the myelin sheath, a complex fatty neural tissue that insulates many nerves of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Without functional myelin, nerves are unable to aid in the conduction of an impulse, which leads to increasing disability. The only way to stop the progression of the disease is with a bone marrow transplant.

I met Aidan for the first time a few months back while visiting Indian Larry Motorcycles in Brooklyn, NY. He is the son of the owner, Bobby Seeger Jr. I’ll never forget this day. Aidan had these big blue eyes and bright smile. He was playing in the garage, tuning up his toy car, seemingly unaffected by his condition. And from that day forward I have joined the fight in raising awareness for not only Aidan but many other young children who are affected by this disease.

Please take a moment to read his story and join the posse over here.

Aidan’s journey is just beginning and he could use all the help and support we can offer.
