Hampton Phish After Shows EOTO, BoomBox, Pretty Lights

This March marks the return of Phish and their first shows (Hampton Coliseum, Hampton VA- March 6, 7, 8) in almost five years. With their return brings much cause to celebrate, and Glitterglu Productions is more than happy to serve up a tasty dessert to this musical main course with two Phish after-show parties at the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium in Hampton, VA, only 3.5 miles from the Hampton Coliseum, Friday March 6 and Saturday March 7. The dance infused music lineup features a who's who of the live electronica scene, including EOTO (featuring former members of the String Cheese Incident), BoomBox, Pretty Lights, J.Wail, Freepeoples Frequency (featuring members of SeepeopleS) and Sci Fi. Although billed as an after-show for the main event, doors open at 9pm both nights and the shows will start soon thereafter for the many Phish fans who make the migration to Hampton, VA and aren't fortunate enough to score tickets.

Glitterglu Productions has truly cooked up an eclectic mix of live electronic improv and beat oriented dance acts to keep bodies shaking until 5 am. Headlining the first night are jam-scene veterans EOTO. Consisting of one third of the progressive sextet, The String Cheese Incident, EOTO is a joint venture between former SCI members Jason Hann and Michael Travis. The duo is an entirely improvisational collaboration of live instrumentation and digital mixing. They have eagerly taken to the road to deliver a totally inimitable and unforgettable live experience. Performing in roles completely different than the ones in SCI, Jason Hann and Michael Travis keep the crowds moving. With the raw power of live drums, the music is all created on the spot, recorded, and remixed live, proving no two shows are exactly alike. While completely different from SCI, life-long SCI fans will be drawn to the dance frenzy and originality that is EOTO.

The line up for Friday also includes national touring sensation J.Wail, who creates his own style of "live-club-funk" through innovative techniques using guitar, bass, vocals, synthesizers and live electronics. With 450+ shows in the last three years, J.Wail has proved himself one of the top up and coming acts on the scene. Also on the line-up is Wilminton, NC's favorite party band Sci Fi, who recently released their self-titled debut album to much critical acclaim. Following the after-show in Hampton, Glitterglu Productions is also proud to announce the EOTO Florida Spring Break Tour (March 9-14) consisting of shows in Islamorada (3/9), Key West (3/10), Miami (3/11), Marathon (3/12), Delray Beach (3/13), West Palm Beach (3/14), and Gainesville (3/15).

Co-headlining the second night of late night Phish extravaganzas is the wildly popular dance rock duo, Boombox and the Colorado based break-beat duo, Pretty Lights. BoomBox is producer/DJ Russ Randolph and singer/songwriter/guitarist Zion Rock Godchaux. This pair of dynamic artists uses their rich musical history and their vision of music and popular culture to deliver a style of music distinctly different from anything heard or seen in music today. This signature sound and show brings live music to a new, elevated level. Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith, accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Cory Eberhard. Together these two achieve a raw energy rarely reached in the realm of electronic music. At a time when music lovers from almost all subcultures and genres are finding common ground in the basic form of bangin' beats, Pretty Lights is giving the people what they want; electro organic cutting-edge party rocking beats that fill venues with energy and emotion and send dance floors into frenzies. Derek's latest album, Filling Up The City Skies is a two disc, 26 track journey through past, present, and future. The album has been downloaded over 30,000 times from the Pretty Lights website in the short three months since its release, proving that the PL sound is not only getting around, it's spreading like a virus.

Rounding out the line up on Saturday night are performances from J.Wail and Freepeoples Frequency (FFQ). FFQ consists of SeepeopleS frontman Will Bradford and SeepeopleS sound engineer Brooke Binion. FFQ recently opened shows for Lotus and BoomBox and are relentless in their attempt to revive big-beat electronic music, with their own unique flavor, of course. In addition to an already packed musical line-up, DJ Ginza of Elemental Harmonics will be doing special late night sets on both nights with an array of very special guests. All in all, Glitterglu Productions has drawn up a recipe for a fantastic dessert to the dinner that is the return of Phish. Steve Kimock Crazy Engine Tour

Steve Kimock Crazy Engine

Steve Kimock will be hitting the road this spring with his new project Steve Kimock Crazy Engine. Exploring a new direction, Crazy Engine is a Steve Kimock project unlike any other. Pushing the boundaries of rock & roll, rhythm & blues, gospel and soul, the repertoire will include Kimock classics as well as an energized catalogue of covers and fresh material.

For nearly four decades Steve Kimock has earned a reputation as a guitarist with an enlightened approach to melodic improvisation and has captured audiences from around the globe with his tasteful guitar speak and brilliant tone. Labeled the "guitar monk" by Relix Magazine for his relentless pursuit of the art of guitar, Steve Kimock blends all of his influences, capturing the spirit of the music wherever he goes, while tuning into sounds from some unseen dimensions.

The long-awaited project will also feature legendary Hammond B3 player, Melvin Seals, best known for his work with the Jerry Garcia Band. The glistening new lineup also includes the cookin' rhythm section of Janis Wallin on bass (Family Groove Company) and Kimock's own son, John Morgan Kimock on drums. Rounding out the configuration with their soulful crooning are "The Girls" on vocals, featuring Cheryl Rucker and Shirley Starks (Melvin Seals and JGB).

Crazy Engine will begin the ride on the West Coast in late March of 2009. With dates filling in quickly from coast to coast, there is no stopping the tour-de-force that moves Steve Kimock and his dynamic band.

a live pretty lights show is almost unbearable. the one I went to was awful. first off his drummer wasn't there, and the rest of the time we were trying to figure out if he actually does anything or if he just acts like he's pressing buttons. The latter seemed to be the case 12/30/08 in chicago. the guy is a joke but I do enjoy some of his studio efforts.

danalog not sure where you are from but I just went to 2 sold out boombox shows in Atlanta and Chatanooga last weekend and they have packed boulder and denver the last couple of times i have seen them there too. good times and the music is no where close to "brainless electronic shit" or whatever.

phish is the real party, but late night electronic sets are always raging! these are some of the best party bands out there right now and i'm glad they are coming so the party doesn't have to end at phish. Pretty Lights and Freepeoples Frequency are the heat! both those bands BUMP HARD.

This late night show is sick. I looked into it...this venue is the closest late night spot going on in Hampton. It is in walkable distance...LITERALLY. You can't go wrong with these bands. Sci Fi is sick!! They are the Medeski Generation X. These guys were amazing at Loki , Floyd, Trinumeral...Free Peoples is nasty , Ginza is the nastiest new DJ, Pretty Lights has proven their path...People will be getting down and the venue is nice looking..I will be there for sure

Danalog, I think you have it completely wrong. These bands are doing people a FAVOR by playing after the Phish show when people might otherwise have nothing to do and are probably not "able" to sleep yet. Most of these bands are selling out venues on their own already. Basically, the whole weekend just got a whole lot better with the additions of these bands. IMO electronic music is the perfect latenight music after a rocking Headliner.

for the record...i grew up 15 minutes from the coliseum and none of these after shows are in walking distance. I saw sci-fi at loki and they weren't as good as they were hyped up to be. I'll be at Kimock.

I saw Trey band in Eureka (Humboldt County) a few years ago - the same people that are doing the NorVa thing with Kimock put on Trey in Eureka - Passions. The aftershow for that was at The Red Fox (which the only real outlet selling hard copy tickets and where Kimock's Crazy Engine is 3/31 and 4/1??? Someone there is connected) WTF??? Somebody in either or both those circles must know somebody close to the band and I wouldn't be surprised if that's some sort of a collaborative effort. Sure 3/6 - EOTO will do - wooo hooo, go MT!

But the two NorVa Kimock dates (3/7, 3/8) - which are Crazy Engine's unofficial debut (look at the lineup) without actually calling it that - are going to be the follow-up what happened almost 10 years ago exactly - (PHIL, TREY, PAGE, KIMOCK, etc. AT THE WARFIELD 4/15, 4/16, 4/17, 1999)

And now with Melvin Seals (musical producer for Jerry Garcia)

And Kimock's son on drums - sorry to miss Molo or Rodney, but this father/son thing makes for a little sentimental reflection even for this hard-ass.

Are you kidding me???

A $20 cab ride away from the venue, out of po-po-shakedown-ville where hotels are cheap and it goes till 3 a.m. for our heads.

Hmmmmmmmm tough call where I'm gonna be after the second two Phish shows. Someones done their homework and I'm giving them an "A"

Cheers to Phish reunion and 3-7 nights of bender!

"(PHIL, TREY, PAGE, KIMOCK, etc. AT THE WARFIELD 4/15, 4/16, 4/17, 1999)"

I was thinking the exact same thing. Although I don't think this is the unofficial debut of Crazy Engine. Crazy Engine is going to be a more gospel/soul type of thing, whereas I see this as a more melt your face kind of show (hopefully with heavy mutron usage). Melvin's played with Kimock in various projects and bands, and I think he will be the only member of Crazy Engine in the SKF shows. Otherwise, they wouldn't of said featuring "Melvin Seals and very special guests." No Offense to the other members of Crazy Engine (Janis Wallin on bass, John Morgan Kimock on drums, "The Girls" on vocals, featuring Cheryl Rucker and Shirley Starks), but I don't know who any of them are other than Kimock's son (who is awesome). C'mon Phish is playing 20 minutes away, why wouldn't at least one of them show up?
