Steve Kimock Crazy Engine

Steve Kimock Crazy Engine Tour

Steve Kimock Crazy Engine
Steve Kimock will be hitting the road this spring with his new project Steve Kimock Crazy Engine. Exploring a new direction, Crazy Engine is a Steve Kimock project unlike any other. Pushing the boundaries of rock & roll, rhythm & blues, gospel and soul, the repertoire will include Kimock classics as well as an energized catalogue of covers and fresh material.

For nearly four decades Steve Kimock has earned a reputation as a guitarist with an enlightened approach to melodic improvisation and has captured audiences from around the globe with his tasteful guitar speak and brilliant tone. Labeled the "guitar monk" by Relix Magazine for his relentless pursuit of the art of guitar, Steve Kimock blends all of his influences, capturing the spirit of the music wherever he goes, while tuning into sounds from some unseen dimensions.

The long-awaited project will also feature legendary Hammond B3 player, Melvin Seals, best known for his work with the Jerry Garcia Band. The glistening new lineup also includes the cookin' rhythm section of Janis Wallin on bass (Family Groove Company) and Kimock's own son, John Morgan Kimock on drums. Rounding out the configuration with their soulful crooning are "The Girls" on vocals, featuring Cheryl Rucker and Shirley Starks (Melvin Seals and JGB).

Crazy Engine will begin the ride on the West Coast in late March of 2009. With dates filling in quickly from coast to coast, there is no stopping the tour-de-force that moves Steve Kimock and his dynamic band.

Kimock rocks it....don't listen to the occasional dude that says he plays in the wrong keys. if you are so wise msudtg....why didn't Mickey Hart ask you to play with him?;) Sorry dude....you left yourself open for that one.

Kimock is an astonishing guitar player and an extremely nice guy. Met him twice, real down to earth. Now all we need is for all these awesome west coast players to realize they have a lot of fans in the midwest and the east coast!!!

Wow. What a negative board. Chill out. I agree that Kimock is amazing, but I don't think we need to castrate someone for having a different opinion. I've seen shows where Kimock's dynamics were pretty off, but that was most likely b/c he doesn't use monitors, which is why his tone is so perfect (not sure if this is still the case, but I know it was for as long time). But overall I would recommend that anyone who has witnessed an off night give the guy another chance. I sure look forward to the show at the Aladdin. Hope there'll be more dancing than usual.

P.S. I know I just commented on the negativity here, but I've just got to let Scofieldguy know what a douche bag he sounds like. I'm sure you're a nice guy in person and a great guitarist, but just take it easy with your "jazz comp degree from the most prestigious music school in the world" man. Just make your arguments. Nobody really cares that you can play behind your head.

scofieldguy - your a tool! and your own words back me up: ", I can tell you dont have jazz comp degrees from the most prestigious music school in the world. So... I am just warning you... you can like whoever you want... please enjoy the show, but if you call him a great guitarist please be able to back it up with specifics." LMFAO at you! one thing your expensive worthless music degree can't do is teach you how to appreciate good music. thats obvious.

Anyone who doesn't like steve kimock is an amateur...just listen to the KVHW show off nugs.net.....or his show with JFJO.....or his shows with JGB...or anything really. He is a true sonic master....if you don't see that you need to realize you are a small grain of sand on a big beach. I highly doubt jerry would call him his favorite unknown guitarist if he sucks!!!!! HAHAHAHAH you are dumbasses if your gonna try to argue taste with jerry...he might know a thing or two about music more than you rooks.

I am friends with SK, and I can honestly say that he is a humble, somewhat shy guy who basically exists, communicates, and LIVES through his music.

(Of course, one could feasibly argue that about ANY of their favorite musicians.)

I agree, however, about his occasionally stoic demeanor. He often does not smile, not to mention stand, during shows. I often akin him to a scientist who is in a musical lab each night.

He's serious, mysterious, and IMHO, amazing.

But I have seen plenty of shows that fizzle, yet even more that have RAGED. The 97 Zero tour (check out the SE run) have paint-peeling moments every night. KVHW might have been my favorite incantation so far, and I often miss the deep funk of Bobby Vega and Alan Hertz's hyper-drumming.

Rather than "Deconstructing Stevie," I think it's more valuable to keep seeing what he's doing.

The band keeps changing, as does the music, and even though continuity would probably do SK some good, I look at it in a similar light to what Scofield or Frisell are doing: sometimes it's good, other times it's great, but catch it if you can, because it's always changing and growing into some new machine.

This time it's called Crazy Engine, but isn't it always one?
