Y'all are crazy. Panic is great w/ or w/o Jimmy. We are just fortunate to see him with other great artists to feed off each other.

Either way though, this solo album is going to be sick. Trucks and Rodgers jamming with Jimmy in the studio! Hell yeah!

panic with McConnell, does anybody remember those dark ages? Panic is a great band, bell/schools/herman/ortiz but Herring brings such a raunchy rock n roll dirty south vibe that I don't see how they could move on without him..this album is gonna be sick

Panic would go on! Why would Herring leave? Panic is in the best rock and roll band in America. They have a kick ass legion of fans and the get treated with the respect they deserve. They call their own shots. That being said I can not wait for this album!

Thank you for saying it nappysci. Schools SHOULD have joined Mule. Jimmy is a total badass. WSP sounds uninspired and lacks dynamics. Can't wait for this album.

I don't know that Schools could have joined Mule....but at least he saved the Mule.

If you want to hear show amazing stuff...look for 2/5/2005....Five Guys and a Stage...

or as I call it SuperMule!

Yeah, Jimmy IS the shit, but all you panic haters who say he carries the band, you don't know what you're talking about. If people stuck with this band after mikey died, why would any change in guitar player now make them want to stop? Panic is not about jimmy, he adds a great new vibe, but the roots still go much deeper. If Luther got the job, theyd be blowing up, if Marc Ford got the job (which would have been sick, if you ask me), they'd still be blowing up, and if georgemac were still in there, they'd STILL be blowing up. And NappySCI, with a screename like that, wouldn't expect much more from you, but you could'nt be more wrong. Shit, the only lineup change that would kill it for me is if they put Mike Kang on lead ukelele. My band's on tour right now, where's yours? And Vollostcom, go ahead and take it easy on Widespread Panic day. Panic fans will be partying, cause thats what the fuck we do, and we do it better than anyone else. Yeah.

good to see herring doing so many things these days. he wasn't nearly as active years ago when he was teaching so much. i agree with waker that its a little ridiculous to say that he carries panic. he's the best guitar player they've ever had, but they will always be fun no matter who is up there doing it. don't bring sci into it though waker, that's the exact kind of crap posting that pisses me off. give props to your band. if you don't like another one that's fine, but don't bash them, especially when this story has absolutely nothing to do with them.

Michael Kang shits on Panic, and this is coming from someone who just got back from all three nights of Panic at Red Rocks. Who gives a shit if Panic is on tour and Cheese isnt? That doesnt mean a damn thing. I love Jimmy Herring but as far as Panic goes - I cant exactly tell the difference between a good version of a Panic song or a bad version of a Panic song. They go out and play their music the same way they played it the time before.

I had a blast at Red Rocks, but Widespread Panic is not a perfect band like Waker thinks. Phish isnt on tour. Does that mean Panic is better than them? (you still would probably think so.) If Kang joined Panic I would think less of Kang and more of Widespread Panic.

With no disrecpect to anyone, this thread is about Jimmy Herring and his first solo album which features so many of his close friends, Oteil, derek trucks, jeff sipe, kofi, greg osby.

Lets not compare about WSP or Phish or String Cheese. Music cannot be compared and certainlyly Jimmy Herring likes most music. When I spoke to him a while ago, he was a genuine guy, appreciated all music but considered Miles Davis , Allan Holdsworth, Col Bruce, Albert Ayler and others to be folks he looked up to . Not only in the jam band worls, people in jazz , rock and fusion fields respect Jimmy and consider him to a serious force in music...

So we are excited to hear some gems from Jimmy Herring

I've heard Herring is going to be on the new Codetalkers album as well. Supposedly, Bobby Lee Rodgers plays on a bunch of the Herring album. Lots of changes, very jazzy is the word

You guys are missing the point...Panic's problem is that they can never achieve greatness with such a pathetic drummer. Todd Nance is the single worst drummer in rock & roll today. No dynamics, no technique, no imagination, no creativity, same damn drum fill for every damn song, yada yada. Being a drummer, it's painful watching the artificial ceiling he puts on their music. My man Jimmy is doing his best trying to get the boys to launch off, but Todd has no ability to take the band anywhere.

...Jeff Sipe with Panic...if they ever hope to take their music to the next level.

What tranceful_delite said. Realistically though I doubt we will see a full time ARU tour anytime soon. Maybe some one offs here and there or in the off season.

So many of you guys need to grow up. Real music is not a popularity contest, regardless of which band(s) are our favorites most of us feel it in our soul when they are jamming and that is what really matters. Worry less about posting bullshit attacking the musicians that we as a community look up to and more about going and seeing whatever live music it is that makes you happy. If you really need to bitch there are plenty of better things to complain about. Remember what music and this scene is really about.

Cheers

This guy is so on fire with Panic. B4 Panic he was cold as ice. He needed the vibe of great songs like JB's to shine forward. Go Panic ...go Herring.

Panic rocks with any guitarist'cause they bring the hot ass heat.

DMB & WSP are talking tour dudes...Bring it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"you obviously did not see last night's panic setlist."

No but I bet it looks a lot like one of their setlist from 1995. Yeah they mix it up nite to nite but fuck man they are still playing all the same songs nite in and nite out that they were playing when i was 12. Addition is not progression and actually in my mind pulling in Jimmy was kinda a cop-out. Didn't they just put out a album with NEW material? Im not sure if they did but either when was the last time they put out a studio album with all new material on it before now, like the 90's? I may be wrong though but all i know is I would be pissed if my band never released any new material and was still playing the same shit they were playing 10 years ago.
