Derek Trucks/Soul Stew Update

NEW ALBUM IN THE WORKS
FOLLOWING BUSY SUMMER OF LIVE DATES

Derek Trucks Band
A recent note from the Derek Trucks Band confirms that a new studio album is in "full swing." The band carved time out of their spring tour schedule to write and record at Trucks' new home studio, which was completed in January his brother David and tech extraordinaire Bobby Tis. With the help of engineers Bobby and Marty Wall, the recording process has reportedly been going great on this forthcoming "homegrown" release. will truly be a “homegrown” creation! Rough estimates have the new album arriving in early 2009.

The Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival kicked off at Bonnaroo and will continue through this year's Gathering of the Vibes on August 3. The Soul Stew Revival has officially grown to an eleven-piece ensemble for the summer including a three-piece horn section. Scrapomatic, the wonderful new side project for DTB lead vocalist Mike Mattison, will open all dates except July 5 on the summer Soul Stew tour.

The Derek Trucks Band kicks back into gear on August 17 at the Lake Champlain Maritime Festival in Burlington, VT.

Its about time the dTb release a new studio album. By early '09 that will have been 3 years since the last Songlines(Feb '06). More studio albums, more often. More new original band penned material, less covers and rearrangements. More creativity, less resting on laurels like the current ABB and such. Less DVD's and live albums as bait to hold us over for years until the next one comes out.

Well, this "Anyone" is looking forward to both All Good & GOTV. And I think it will be quite interesting to hear, Derek and his wife together, as I've heard each in their respective acts, and to hear it all with horns. I think they will be a highlight for me at both Fests.

I agree with you Summertime about the dTb needing to come out with brand new material, but I'm sure resting is one thing Derek hasn't been doing much of. Recording and touring with clapton, touring with santana, and recording with jimmy herring while touring and recording an album for their current project Soul Stew has taken the majority of derek's time I'm sure. I hope I can catch at least one night at the Mcglohon theatre "church" in charlotte.

I know this will be unpopular, but oh well, more Derek Trucks with dTb & SSR *ONLY* and LESS Derek Trucks touring and recording with other old people.

Atlanta will get theirs NYE. and got theirs with the Santana opening gigs back in April.

A word of advice. If you like seeing the band(the dTb) LIVE then I would definitely catch them this fall. I have a feeling next year Derek will be really busy assuming Gregg is healthy and assuming Derek is performing with them(and I am). I do hope that I am very wrong about that.

and im sure you know my resting on laurels comment doesn't refer to Derek not staying busy it refers to the lack of new material being written, recorded, & released by a band that is still *young*. its sad to see. its like they're trying to follow the abb business model. if the future holds the same pattern then after this one gets released we probably won't see another 12 new songs until 2012.

I guarantee you that this is not the *final* tour schedule for this fall.

South Florida got theirs at the end of April as a Santana opener and I would venture to say will again with the late December holiday run as in years past.

this was one of the best sets at Bonnaroo. i wasn't even thinking about it because of all the heavyweights on the bill and because i've seen them so many times here in Florida and at Wanee but i have to see anyone from Wanee any chance i get (its like seeing family). but their set was simply on fire, one of the best Derek and Susan sets i've seen. Probably the best with the possible exception of the first midnight set at the second Wanee. So yeah, nobody miss them this summer.

Saw the revival at the fraze in kettering, ohio july 3rd- Great show. Scrapomatic was the opener. DTB added a second kit (Duane Trucks) and a killer horn section. Their band has a very full sound. They grooved hard in a tight pocket most of the night. The crowd was electrified. With two standing ovations Dayton was well pleased with the stew. This is a must see show!
