Rachel Hoffman Mem. Concert

Purple Hatter's Ball – A celebration of the life of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman

Rachel Hoffman
On July 12 2008, Purple Hat Productions will present the 1st Annual Purple Hatter's Ball, a celebration of the life of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman, at the Ponderosa Wildlife Sanctuary in Quincy, FL.

This single day event will feature many local and regional artists who had personal relationships with Rachel. Acts scheduled to play include Athens, Georgia reggae sensations Dubconscious, The Warehouse Jazz & Funk Ensembles, Catfish Alliance, Trial By Stone, Corporal Boil, The Malah, Full Black Out, Pepper Drive, Eurosults, Mechaneborialis, The Zack Bartholomew Trio and more.

On May 7, 2008, Rachel Morningstar Hoffman was tragically taken from her family, from her friends and from our community way before her time. On July 12 they will celebrate her special life. While the circumstances surrounding Rachel's death are certainly upsetting and controversial (watch news clip below), The Purple Hatter's Ball is a celebration of Rachel's spirit and memory, not a political debate.

Rachel developed a special relationship with The Ponderosa Wildlife Preserve when she helped ready the property for the Bear Creek Music and Art Festival in 2007. With this in mind, enjoying a night of music at this spiritual place is particularly appropriate.

Rachel also had plans to attend culinary school in the near future and often hosted potluck gatherings at her home to practice for her future career. To honor her passion for food and hospitality, the organizers invite all participants to bring a homemade dish to share with others and to participate in what may be the largest potluck dinner in Florida history.

Tickets are on-sale now. The $30 tickets include music and overnight camping. There will be a limited number of persons admitted on the property so only 400 tickets will be sold. Tickets are available at the Green Living Center, CD Warehouse and Vinyl Fever in Tallahassee. All profits from this event will benefit the Morningstar Foundation which has been established by Rachel's mother and stepfather. **The "Purple Hat" is a symbolic representation of Rachel's favorite colorful wardrobe accessory that she wore at many music festivals and concerts.

Please read the press release. " This is a celebration of the life and memory of Rachel, not a political debate." This release is meant to inform her friends about this special event. Obviously, you were not her friend. Are you here to antagonize those who have lost a beloved daughter and friend. Or do you just like to see your stupid opinions in print.

I read about this over on Panic's Phantasy Tour site. This was a crazy situation and according to her friends was a complete and utter failure by the local cops. The media seems to be rding the fence a little bit. One thing is for sure, it wouldn't take a "genius" drug dealer to question why she was buying a gun from them. This apparently has been very big news in the FSU community. Sad. Good luck to her friends and family and kudos to the organizers of this event. Although it's terrible to have to exploit someone's misfortune to bring this story to light, it is certainly a story that needs to be told.

I cannot believe this could happen. Talk about a real reason for people to get together and start taking down the undemocratic powers in this country. Just ridiculous. So sorry for the family and friends of this poor girl.

its totally sad, but thats what the cops do, they scare people into working up the supply line. she obviously got shook and intimidated when she was arrested and didnt want to tell her parents or whoever but if she had just gotten a lawyer immediately and he would have told her..... 1st time offender no priors..... your gonna get a slap on the wrist. Guess she didn't or there are some circumstances not being revealed. ALWAYS GET A LAWYER PEOPLE

Here's my question: After being caught with what seems to be a less than considerable amount of substance, why the hell would the cops expect her to be able to pull off a major deal like that? The dealers knew they were being set up, and unfortunately, Rachel took the fall. Sad.

Like Paul has said, this event is about Rachel herself, not her circumstances. You don't step on the graves of the dead, you don't trashed loved ones lost.

Though, I can't not reply to the ill-intentioned comments. To say Rachel should not have been an informant is ridiculous. You, and I and no one except the officers involved know about her situation when she made the decision. Furthermore, the people she was attempting to bust were obviously violent criminals who deserve to be in jail. Maybe instead of saying Rachel was selling someone else down the river, you should see that instead of just putting another pot dealer in prison, Rachel was going to help put someone unsafe in jail.

I hope karma hits you hard.
