Purple Hatter’s Ball – A celebration of the life of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman

Rachel Hoffman
On July 12 2008, Purple Hat Productions will present the 1st Annual Purple Hatter’s Ball, a celebration of the life of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman, at the Ponderosa Wildlife Sanctuary in Quincy, FL.

This single day event will feature many local and regional artists who had personal relationships with Rachel. Acts scheduled to play include Athens, Georgia reggae sensations Dubconscious, The Warehouse Jazz & Funk Ensembles, Catfish Alliance, Trial By Stone, Corporal Boil, The Malah, Full Black Out, Pepper Drive, Eurosults, Mechaneborialis, The Zack Bartholomew Trio and more.

On May 7, 2008, Rachel Morningstar Hoffman was tragically taken from her family, from her friends and from our community way before her time. On July 12 they will celebrate her special life. While the circumstances surrounding Rachel’s death are certainly upsetting and controversial (watch news clip below), The Purple Hatter’s Ball is a celebration of Rachel’s spirit and memory, not a political debate.

Rachel developed a special relationship with The Ponderosa Wildlife Preserve when she helped ready the property for the Bear Creek Music and Art Festival in 2007. With this in mind, enjoying a night of music at this spiritual place is particularly appropriate.

Rachel also had plans to attend culinary school in the near future and often hosted potluck gatherings at her home to practice for her future career. To honor her passion for food and hospitality, the organizers invite all participants to bring a homemade dish to share with others and to participate in what may be the largest potluck dinner in Florida history.

Tickets are on-sale now. The $30 tickets include music and overnight camping. There will be a limited number of persons admitted on the property so only 400 tickets will be sold. Tickets are available at the Green Living Center, CD Warehouse and Vinyl Fever in Tallahassee. All profits from this event will benefit the Morningstar Foundation which has been established by Rachel’s mother and stepfather. **The “Purple Hat” is a symbolic representation of Rachel’s favorite colorful wardrobe accessory that she wore at many music festivals and concerts.
