TRAFFIC'S NOTORIOUS CURMUDGEON TURNS 64
Though widely regarded as a prickly pear of the highest order, Dave Mason co-founded Traffic, jammed with Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac and Crosby & Nash (amongst hundreds of other luminaries) and penned these immortal lines:
Seems I got to have a change of scene
Every night I have the strangest dream
Imprisoned by the way it could have been
Left you on my own or so it seemed
I got to leave before I start to scream
But someone locked the door and took the keys
Today is Mr. Mason's birthday and we light a small bonfire of candles in his honor.
We start our salute with a saucy duo version of his signature tune with a fun lil' Keller Williams vibe.
Mason boards The Midnight Special for a tender take on his '70s radio staple "We Just Disagree."
Here he is with Delany & Bonnie, Bobby Whitlock and Eric Clapton jamming on "Poor Elijah," a tune that's recently become a regular on Black Crowes' setlists.
And we end with a more recent slice of Dave Mason in concert doing "Dear Mr. Fantasy," where he reminds us he's right up there with David Gilmour as one of the most lyrical, poetic rock guitarists of all time.
