Robby Krieger Sits In With Particle

Krieger & Steve Molitz
by Earl Gardner
Particle will embark on a three day run in Southern California with special guest Robby Krieger (The Doors) on guitar. The run kicks off at House of Blues Anaheim on March 13 and continues March 14 at the El Rey Theater in LA. The group will wrap up at House of Blues in San Diego on March 15. Krieger has joined Particle on past occasions, most recently in San Francisco, where they ran through variations of Doors and Particle songs with vocalist Adam Iscove from the band AllRise. Iscove will be on board again for these special shows.

Particle's collaborations with Robby Krieger date all the way back to 2002 at the bands 2-year anniversary party. Krieger joined the band for an extended jam in "Cyclops Suzie" which led into Krieger's own "Light My Fire." Krieger joined the band again in February 2006 in Los Angeles where he jammed with the band on "Metropolis," "LA Woman" and "Superstition." Krieger followed the band out to the desert 3 months later at Joshua Tree Music Festival for the fitting "Riders on the Storm." The last Krieger appearance in San Francisco in December 2007 featured multiple Doors songs including "LA Woman," "Peace Frog," "Break on Through," and "The End."

Los Angeles based funk band and Particle homeboys Big Organ Trio will be opening all three shows. The band is catching a huge local buzz with three recent sit-ins by keyboard legend Keith Emerson from Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Make sure to get to these gigs early to catch Big Organ Trio.

Molitz is the shit. As long as he's in whatever version of Particle it is, they will survive.

Very misleading... "sits" in", "joins in", "for three shows". This is highly inaccurate reporting.

The title of the newswire has been changed. We failed to see how it might be taken as change in lineup. Apologies for the confusion from the JamBase editorial staff. As for the item about Big Organ Trio opening for Umphrey's McGee, we simply printed what was reported to us from Particle's publicist. The item has also been corrected. Due to the volume of information that comes in we can't check every reference and appreciate when our readers catch a mistake. Thank you.

particle is a great, very talented band + robbie on guitar will make these shows hot! it's too bad they've kinda lost their way recently, but could you blame molitz for phil tour and now darren for mickey hart tour. musically, and that's what it's about right? this band is awesome.

To anyone who will attend any/all of these shows: Rage it for me! If I didn't live in NY, I would definitely check out one of these shows. I missed a show that Particle played in the NYC on my birthday back in 2005 (only because NONE of my friends could afford to go) and have been kicking myself in the face ever since. I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed for a reunion show in the (hopefully) near future.....

...from socal and big organ trio does not have a "huge local buzz," "particle homeboys" or not...Bands with a "huge local buzz" in socal = Alfred Howard, Delta Nove, Banyan, Bside Players. Kreiger is a legend. Particle is fun but not uber talented...

keep in mind robby has been in and out of the scene for 40+ years... he should be an inspiration to a lot of young musicians, he was barely 20 (!) when the doors got started, and wrote many of the their 'hits.' on top of that i think he was a damn good guitarist, although i haven't heard much from him recently to comment on his present abilities. i would be honored to see him in concert!

Curses to all of you that are smack talkin' on Robbie. His guitar rocks. Any guitarist that has tried to play his lead parts will attest to that. Both him and Manzarek made Jim's poems into the rock anthems that they never would've been without such great instrumentalists. Particle's 'aight though.

and give up on charlie hitchcock its OVER.. ok?

other than that, I wish I had seen the shows with Josh Clark of TLG.

and other than that, they need a real full time guitarist, not all these part timers.

ben combes was good, too bad he left :(

oh particle, I feel like I've written this same comment so many times. They used to be one of my favorite bands and sure have gone downhill since Charlie left. Ben and the other guy were alright but not great. Plus they brought with them the horrible song writing and singing. They do need a full time guitarist and then maybe I'll check them out again.

wish the best for particle and agree, Robbie is a legend and should have respect as well as Alfred Howard is one of the hottest young lyricists out there.

I underestemated Kreigers skills by about 1000%. he played some unreal shit @ gamh w particle. actually made an entire Particle show interesting. that Mullit guys sit in with UM @ the fillmore was also pretty surprising. ill admit that i had no idea what the fuck he was trying to do at all till he fired up the moog....but whatever. phil should make him play more analog synth....@Uris Night. yeah.

So, Star Wars has stolen a word from my lexicon. I wouldn't have known that since I haven't seen any of the movies. Maybe I should patent it, like Reilly (sp) did with 'three peat.' Thank you for letting me know that my vernacular has been pirated by the movie industry.

Namaste (btw, used that one before Lost and am a UM grad) Coincidental? I think not.

Keep the faith sisters and brothers,
