Jamtronica act STS9 began an extensive Fall Tour last night at First Avenue in Minneapolis. The band honored local hero Prince by working one of The Purple One’s most famous songs into a Sound Tribe classic to start the second set.
STS9 kicked off last night’s second set with “Circus.” Bassist Alana Rocklin took a bit of a solo that led into a jam on Prince’s “Purple Rain” to the delight of the crowd. Prince recorded “Purple Rain” at First Avenue on August 3, 1983 though he added overdubs and studio trickery later. After jamming on the “Purple Rain” chord progression Tribe returned to “Circus” for the remainder of the song.
STS9 continues Fall Tour tonight at the Orpheum in Madison, Wisconsin.
