Phil Lesh Returns For Set At Terrapin Crossroads

One week ago today, we learned Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh has been battling bladder cancer, when Lesh posted a note revealing he had recently undergone treatment. The good news was there was no indication the cancer had spread and Phil advised he’d soon be back on stage, perhaps for a jam at the Terrapin Crossroads bar. On Thursday night Lesh held true to his word as he played a set with the Terrapin Family Band at his San Rafael, California restaurant/concert hall.
Phil handled bass duties with Ross James, Brian Rashap and Grahame Lesh on guitars, Scott Guberman on keyboards and Alex Koford on drums for one lengthy set at the Terrapin Crossroads bar. The performance started off with Grahame fronting the band on “Bertha” before Phil handled lead vocals on “Whiskey In The Jar.” Ross took a turn up front on “Cassidy” leading to Grahame singing “He’s Gone.” Alex Koford then stepped into the vocal spotlight for a cover of CSNY’s “Ohio.” The set came to a close with “The Wheel” > “Werewolves Of London” followed by “Sugar Magnolia” and “Turn On Your Lovelight.”
Deadheadland reports “Phil Lesh looked healthy and whole heartedly happy to be playing once again to the Terrapin Nation.” The next confirmed show for Phil is set for The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on October 30.
