Indeed a tease!

With the success and relative genius o IN RAINBOWS, as well as their brilliant live reproduction of it on the Scotch Mist webcast, this may turn out to be an amazing tour.

You are right. I have no idea what I am talking about.

OK Computer was the best and worst event in this band's history, much like Dark Side of the Moon for Floyd. It was their apex of musical creativity and the beginning of full blown financial profitability.

People thought The Wall was a great concept/album, and beyond a few radio friendly singles, I don't think it should be even mentioned in the same breath as Piper, Saucer, AHM, Meddle, DSOTM...

This is why I'm surprised In Rainbows made so many top album lists. I wish my disconnect with their current style of music didn't exist, but it does. I wish I could believe in the all mighty genius of Radiohead much like everyone does in my generation, but I can't. There's been too much hype for about 5 or 6 years now. Kid A was a great disc, especially for the stylistic transition it represented. After that, they lost their edge and they lost me...

I'm guessing the Cleveland show will be at blossom in the late summer. It's an amazing venue and I've seen Radiohead twice there. Definite must see. Their light show at night in the woods was something I won't soon forget. In any event, it will be nice to see them live again. Saw them a little bit at the Roo but I was working when they played and could only catch an hour or so.

gmoo-- if you truly believe that the wall " shouldnt even be mentioned in the same breath as Piper, Saucer, AHM, Meddle, DSOTM... " then you truly are a moron. the wall is one of the darkest scariest emotinal rock opera's of all time and if you knew anything it was all about syd barret and roger waters life and the band, yes the tour broke the band apart, but muscially no one has come close to the magnitude of this album (or the show itself that was only played 12 times. they actually built a wall at every show and tore it down at the end). please stop making ignorant statements, and stop compraring floyd to radiohead, its not even close, they are two totaly different entities. radiohead rocks, and the new album rocks. period.

Again you are right MimiLuv I know nothing at all about music. I 'truly am a moron', just like you said. I had no idea that the band built a wall on stage and sang a bunch of sappy, boring songs like 'Don't leave me now' and 'Bring the boys back home' and 'The thin ice'. Who is Syd Barrett? I have no idea about any of this. Could you please inform me some more about how 'ignorant' I am?

This is where you try to convince me that Pink Floyd's final cut is a masterpiece.

I hope when they say San Francisco them mean the actual city and not Shoreline Amphitheatre (ugh). If it's in the city, I'm guessing they'll play Bill Graham Civic - I can't imagine any other venue within city limits that they would think of booking. Although the two shows at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley were phenomenal.

mimiluv- i think we all know what the premise of 'the wall' was....it is essentially the same themes that waters wrote EVERY floyd album around. yes, the few shows that they played with an elaborate stage design were probably very cool to witness, but musically, the album itself is full holes and is, in my opinion, unlistenable straight through . people that don't know that much about classic-rock/floyd (ie- high school kids.....and i was one once upon a time) think that dsotm and the wall are the end all, be all of music. gradually you come to realize that albums like meddle and animals are where the floyd really shined. also, if you actually give gmoo's post another read, i think his radiohead/floyd comparison is pretty on. it's not meant to compare their musical style, but rather their rise to stardom. radiohead is a good band, i just wish they stopped making albums with 'kid a'.....i can't listen to the super-drone-heavy, completely linear, ambient stuff.

ps- it sounds like thom yorke sang all of 'in rainbows' from the bottom of a well.

pinkhead.....or is it radiofloyd? not in the same league people. once again, let's leave the comparisons game alone. gmoo, very valid points comparing the rise and fall. i personally don't think the wall is really that bad. maybe not there best, but certainly alot better than 95% of the bands people nut all over on this site. gotta love atom heart mother for its creativity though (and meddle, piper, etc.) just my .02. flame me if it makes you fel better!

OH YEAH!! I called it. Q101 (chicago radio station) was talking earlier today about Lollapalooza and how Radiohead is one of the rumored headliners, since Chicago is a confirmed city on their tour. The only other band they mentioned was velvet revolver getting offered a headlining spot, but nothing was official yet. Not so sure about that one,(i'd rather see a guns and roses reunion, myself) but I think Radiohead is a lock. should they not be at Lollapalooza, though, I'm hoping for a few nights at Northerly Island (but, like i said, i think their lolla bound).

jperkins9 - last time when they announced like this and played the Greek it said Berkeley, CA... so I have a feeling your guess about the Bill Graham is correct, also two big experimental rock groups just came through there recently (Tool, Mars Volta) so that seems like a logical stop for Radiohead.

The only other small possibility I can think of is the SF Concourse. The ultimate would be 3 nights at the Fillmore though.

gmoo, briank67, do you mean that you don't find anything magical about Wish You Were Here? And Animals is probably my favorite album that Floyd ever recorded! Granted, The Wall is a bit blah, but you can't really say that everything post DSOTM is not good...can you? I saw them perform on the Animals tour (yes 1977...I'm old) and it is still THE best show that I have ever seen! To each his own, I guess.

I love WYWH and Animals. I was trying to make a correlation between OK Computer and DSOTM as an end of innocence and the beginning of unwanted, unrealistic expectations by both the industry and fans as seen through the eyes of each band. These expectations undoubtly affected both Thom and Roger's songwriting and general attitude towards their fanbase. Watch 'Meeting People is Easy' and one can notice the obvious frustrations of a young Thom Yorke while on tour.

Coincidentally, when I was uber-depressed (middle school and high school), I listened to both these bands with heavy rotation These days, I'd much rather something uplifting such as a 'Franklin's Tower' rather than 'Is There Anybody Out There?'. Thanks for keeping me honest though, Sunnbear :)

NO MORE NORTHERLY ISLAND BEACH..........

just an update, i actually sat on the beach for the entire Ben Harper show there, and had a blast, however, went back about a month later to sit there for the Tom Petty show, and you are NO LONGER ALLOWED to sit on the beach during concerts, and should you be caught with alcohol, you also get a ticket from the chicago park district pigs. That was actually in the summer of 06, and i'm not sure about their current policy, but the Tom Petty incident pissed me off enough not to go back there(at least to sit on the beach). Not sure if it's true, but I read a while back on the internet that a huge fight broke out on the beach during a rap concert about a month before the Petty show, and that was what lead to the beach being closed during the shows.(like i said, though, not sure if that's true or not).

Cleveland, Philly, and DC for sure. Possibly Chi-town depending on my work schedule. I'm guessing summer tour, large outdoor venues...blossom in cleveland, Tweeter for philly..etc. These guys need to play under the stars, (or in the midst of a rain storm) not in a soul-less arena.
