The Lovely Ladies Return With Dave Matthews Band In Holmdel

The big story from this past weekend’s Dave Matthews Band show in Mansfield, MA was the return of “The Lovely Ladies” backing vocalists for the first time since 2001. As noted by violinist Boyd Tinsley, the vocalists were poised to join the DMB for more shows this summer and one of those gigs took place last night at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ.

Original Lovely Ladies Tawatha Agee and Cindy Mizelle teamed with newcomer Sharon Bryant for a jam based on “#36,” “Save Me,” “You & Me” and “Stay (Wasting Time)” at the end of DMB’s second set in Holmdel. DMBAlmanac notes the portion of “#36” as “#36 (Reprise)” and states it’s the first version in 1,099 shows though it sounds awful similar to The Lovely Ladies’ introduction on Saturday night in Mansfield. Fans are still hoping for a return of the improv-fueled full version of “#36” that has gone missing since the song was folded into “Everyday” in 2001.
