Hot Tuna To Play Jefferson Airplane Oldies In NYC

When Grace Slick’s recovery from throat node surgery in 1969 prompted a Jefferson Airplane hiatus, some members of the band used the time to start a group called Hot Tuna. By 1972 Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen left Jefferson Airplane to focus on Hot Tuna. While the group broke up for two periods over the years, the pair still lead Hot Tuna today. In a twist on history, Hot Tuna will perform Jefferson Airplane “oldies” they have “never before done” this Saturday at the Beacon Theatre in NYC.

The news was shared by Hot Tuna publicist Cash Edwards on Twitter:
@HotTunaBand is bringing #JeffersonAirplane oldies to @BeaconTheatre 11/23….never before done by Tuna! @TheGarden http://t.co/asXkY5VCwF

Edwards also revealed a few of the evening’s special guests: guitarist Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan / Levon Helm) and vocalist Teresa Williams (Levon Helm). We look forward to seeing which of the “never before done” Airplane tracks Hot Tuna winds up performing.
