FIRST U.S. WILCO SET OF 2013 FEATURES DEBUT OF "WILEXICO"
While JamBase favorites Wilco have an extremely busy summer ahead in which they'll throw
their own festival and perform as part of the traveling AmericanaramA festival, the band
hadn't played a gig in the States in 2013 until Saturday night. Wilco was one of the
headliners at the 2013 installment of the Nelsonville Music Festival which took place this
past weekend in Nelsonville, OH.
In a story similar to many other festivals so far this year, weather was an issue for this
year's Nelsonville Music Festival as storms led to shortened sets from Mavis Staples,
Wilco and other acts at the event. Thankfully, after a delay, Wilco was able to perform
and treated attendees to a 17-song, career-spanning set. Included within was a rare take
on A.M. track "Should've Been In Love" and many fan-favorites such as "I Am Trying
To Break Your Heart," "A Shot In The Arm" and "Heavy Metal Drummer."
When Wilco returned to the stage for an encore, Jeff Tweedy brought out Jacob Valenzuela,
Martin Wenk, Joey Burns, Sergio Mendoza and John Convertino of Calexico for what Tweedy
dubbed "Wilexico," noting that he spent all day coming up with the name. Wilexico offered
a stirring take on "California Stars" as the first encore. Valenzuela and Wenk stuck
around for the evening's finale - "I'm The Man Who Loves You." Wilco's busy June restarts
on June 14 at Bonnaroo before they headline their own Solid Sound Festival the following
