Outformation: Tour/Album

OUTFORMATION HIT THE ROAD IN SUPPORT
OF THEIR LATEST DISC TRAVELER'S REST
Includes Musical Appearances by
Widespread Panic's JoJo Hermann
And Willie Nelson's Mickey Raphael

Outformation
Atlanta, GA --- With years on the road guitar teching for Michael Houser, founding member of Widespread Panic and one of the most infamous jam guitarists in the history of the genre, Sam Holt was no stranger to the music scene or the road. However in forming his own band Outformation, Holt would have to step out of the shadows both literally and figuratively to prove that he could stand on his own in a genre where fans are hard won, but once captivated are also loyal as the day is long. Following the heels of their critically acclaimed debut album Tennessee Before Daylight, the band just released their anticipated follow up album Traveler's Rest on August 21.

Holt and Outformation have a full fall tour scheduled in support of their sophomore CD with more dates to follow in the winter. Released two years after their debut, Traveler's Rest finds the band in a more mature and experimental state. Holt's hypnotic guitar hooks, bass player and singer-songwriter Grady Upchurch's melodies, Lee Schwartz's pounding beat and the harmonies of keyboardist CR Gruver and percussionist Jeff "Birddogg" Lane give each track on Traveler's Rest a unique brand of funkadelic chemistry. Several musical guests also make an appearance throughout the album. The title track, "Traveler's Rest" is a collaborative effort with Widespread Panic's JoJo Hermann, while Mickey Raphael from Willie Nelson's band contributes his harmonica playing talents on the song "Winds."

if you think Outformation is a Panic cover band, then you probably have no idea what you're talking about. have you ever seen them live? i don't think so. i've seen them several times, and i'm sure they cover some Panic songs, but i've never heard them cover any. as far as what is new and happening right now out in musicland, they're pretty much at the top of my list. they have the right mix for me. it sucks for Sam, just because he teched for Mickey and filled in after GMac, he'll never out run the shadow of Panic because of the dumbasses out there.

DAMN good album. For the record, the number of Panic songs in their current tour rotation is 3. Maybe 1 every 1.333 nights. And, the covers they do play are only "Houser" covers that aren't played by Panic anymore. Sam rips your face off with his Ace Frehley meets Toy Caldwell solos. Live or in the studio, nobody can deny that Outformation is one of the best new bands out there.

Gotta say that Outformation IS NOT A PANIC COVER BAND. Geez folks open up your mind for crying out loud. Like these other guys said, Sam Holt will melt your damn face off man. I saw them here in G'ville a few months ago, and it was a great show. Didn't even hear one Panic song, which is good because I saw Panic a week later. Who's gonna be at the Halloween show in Asheville? Woot! Oh Yeah Can't wait for this album to come out, should be killer.

I can't wait to see these guys at Mucklewain Fest. it's practically in my backyard. my house is less than 5 minutes away. all things southern, that's what it's about. everybody come on down and check it out. ya'll can stay at my crib, plenty of room but BYOB&B! i think we have proven that they are definitely not a Panic cover band.

I usually don't disagree with many folks, but I can't say that I'd rather have Sam playing for than Jimmy H. Jimmy tears it up with the boys. They've put on some of the best shows with Jimmy since Mikey's passing(RIP). I think he's brought a new found life back to the band, and I'm loving Jimmy with the boys these days. just my two cents...
