One should never miss Neil Young! Willie is cool too! Don't think much of Mellenball and Dave Matthews all sounds the same. Just one mans' opinion.

FYI to stoopid, err stoops - whatever price they are charging for this show is not for the enrichment of these "blowhards" it is donated directly to benefit Farm Aid. Its a charity concert for needy family farmers that all of these artists support by working for free.

Think before posting please.

plus stoops in years past the lawn seats were $30 (mol), which is pretty reasonalbe in my book for an all day show with typically a good lineup.

I think that the point is being missed here. Look at the state of US farming since Farm Aid started. Interest rates at all time lows, serious reduction in inheritance taxes; but AMD and Cargill rule the market. Our food comes from industrialized sources and no one seems to care.

Further that, we have a government who preaches “free market” to the world then heavily subsidizes corporate farms and puts massive tariffs on imports. On top of that, they give away billions to prop up totally unsustainable farming practices (like raising cattle in the desert and sugar in Florida), Totally fucked up.

I hope some of you will check this out: http://www.bread.org/ and look up info on the farm bill.

Finally – is it me or has Mellencamp had “some work done”?

Nicely stated kirkbrew but I think as the world transitions into a global economy industrialized sources will be necessary to remain competetive. (unfortunate for the family farm) Let's not forget that the government also $ub$idize$ many of the small family farms. Reality is that we have evolved from agricultural to industrial and now a service economy. From a global perspective these industrialized sources are best equiped to approach problems of world hunger than small family farms. One thing that family farms could concentrate on is entry into the rapidly growing niche of organic farming. The family farm provides the perfect environment for organic goods. Increased particpation would ultimately decrease prices for consumers that are interested in purchasing "heathier" products.

farm aid is a great time!! went to the one in chicago 2 years ago and it is worth it for just neil young alone but dave, willie, and john put on good shows as well. i won't be going since its in new york but anyone that lives in that region should attend and support a great cause while listening to some good music because usually they get some great bands to play along with the headliners

daveChapelsilla, err chapelchilla thanks for the enlightened world view and the quick brush up on posting etiquette. if you want to donate, go ahead. the fact is these 4 dudes could personnaly fund the charity at no detriment to themselves. i'll use my $ to support what i like and you should feel free to as well. i can think of several things my $ is better spent on.
ashellen the lawn seat may be $30 (&$50after unowho gets a cut) but the farmaid membership is $40 alone. how much do you think the seat will be? no thanks. is this about charity, music, or $$$$$$$?

the point that many seem to miss: why do americans let famous people guide us in our beliefs and priorities? i don't need any of these guys telling me what i should support and frankly i'm not all that concerned with farms.
when it comes to music, i defer to willie, neil, & dave (i guess mellencamp too) but as far as good causes go, i'll pick my own, thanks.

farm aid membership? thats new to me, I didn't have to pay a membership for the show in Pittsburgh back a few years. I had pavilion for 40$. This isn't about $$. Its about raising a its about contributing to something bigger than what you can do on your own and educating the masses about what companies like Tyson Food does to their products. I had no idea about industrial farming untill I went to farm aide and saw what the videos from the factory. sick sick things. Biogenetically engineered creatures that have the dna like chickens. when you start dying from cancer at a young age, given to you from the perservatives in the food you eat you will start being concerned with farms.

farm aid membership? thats new to me"
try the website.

More incentives for a tax deductible contribution. whats so wrong with that. Do you even know what a tax deductible contribution is brilliant one?

"I didn't have to pay a membership for the show in Pittsburgh back a few years."
it's not required; just another shameless ploy for $, kinda like the dmb fanclub, you know the one you have to pay for if you want mo tickets.

A shameless ploy to get money? you must have been on deans list in college. IT is nothing like the DMB fanclub. its not about getting fans to pay a little more to get a chance for front row seats. its about getting money to help the agricultural state of our nation. not about putting money in anyones pocket. NON-PROFIT ORGINIZATION

"educating the masses about what companies like Tyson Food does to their products"
don't like, don't buy

Its not a don't like it thing. It may taste like any other chicken, but its pumped full of so many chemicals and nastyness that it can't be healthy. And this is the shit they are feeding my kids in school. not cool. People wonder why there are so many desieses that are here that weren't 100 years ago. Where does desiese come from generally? 9 times out of 10 its what we put into our body that causes its failures...

"when you start dying from cancer at a young age, given to you from the perservatives in the food you eat you will start being concerned with farms. "
are you for real? how do you know what i eat? how do you know i haven't beaten cancer 15 times already? i pitty you; so much fear has got to be a hinderance to live.

I don't fear much, its more like conciousness. I am aware that these bad things are out there and more available for people to eat than healthy things. So I choose to not be ignorant and support a healthy lifestyle. Maybe if you had eaten the brown acid that 3rd eye would let you see beyond your mundane existance.

emo,
"Do you even know what a tax deductible contribution is brilliant one?"
sure

"A shameless ploy to get money? IT is nothing like the DMB fanclub. its not about getting fans to pay a little more to get a chance for front row seats."
really then what does this mean? "Members have the chance to purchase two concert tickets before the general public based on availability." taken directly from:
http://www.farmaid.org/site/c.qlI5IhNVJsE/b.2780955/k.92AB/Join_FarmYard.htm
& i did make the deans list a few times.

"not about putting money in anyones pocket. NON-PROFIT ORGINIZATION"
are you fuckin stupid; you're not suggesting that people who work for non-profits don't get paid, right?

"Its not a don't like it thing. "
i know mr. wizard, for you it's an awareness thing.
"And this is the shit they are feeding my kids in school. not cool."
if it's so uncool, try homeschooling, a different district perhaps, maybe writing your local schoolboard, or god forbid packing your kids' lunches before sending them off to the school that you bitch about.
"People wonder why there are so many desieses that are here that weren't 100 years ago. Where does desiese come from generally? 9 times out of 10 its what we put into our body that causes its failures..."
agreed, but as someone who has studied american diabetes trends extensively, i'm comfortable that your chicken little paranoid assertions are the least of my worries.

"I don't fear much, its more like conciousness."
that's not what it sounds like. "I had no idea about industrial farming untill I went to farm aide and saw what the videos from the factory. sick sick things. Biogenetically engineered creatures that have the dna like chickens." it appears via your comments that you went to a show, watched a movie, and then started telling people who don't even fuckin eat chicken, much less tysons chicken that they would die from cancer. idiot!

"I am aware that these bad things are out there and more available for people to eat than healthy things."
oh no, bad things are out there...do you want a cookie for your awareness? oh wait, nevermind, it's not made of fresh ingrediants.
"So I choose to not be ignorant and support a healthy lifestyle."
sorry, i only have cookies for prizes and they're swimming in preservatives.

"Maybe if you had eaten the brown acid that 3rd eye would let you see beyond your mundane existance."
my existance is cool, but thanks. my acid's never brown, but i'll tell you what is: my third eye (not the one that winks, the one that stinks) , the one i use to shit all over your pretenda-awarenes!

What great arguements! This is great! I love that this event has started such debate.

I think that Farm Aid is a great tool in opening up the debate of the food industry and agricultural practices to people who are generally uninformed. I live in "farm country" and I see firsthand what people are doing to our eco-system by spraying toxic chemicals on crops. In communities where people rely on well water this is not the greatest idea of all time. I cannot tell you how many birth defects there are in this community. I will never drink the well water out here. I am moving a.s.a.p. Lived out here for 4 years now and I am sickened by what I have seen.

As far as the treatment of animals for food goes I am vegetarian and on my way to being vegan. I have not eaten meat since 1993. I have never been to Farm Aid. I generally read books and communicate with people who are more knowledgable than myself to learn about what I am interested in.

I do think that Farm Aid is a positive cause and I am aware of the fact that those who are involved with non-profit organizations do make money. On the other hand, out of all of the issues that could be addressed I think this is a positive issue. i think the benefit shows are put on to help raise awareness and get people to the point where they are educating themselves (and I am sure the event is a lot of fun). Then again I have come to conclusions in my life that were not promoted to me by influential individuals with musical instruments. I see value in Farm Aid b/c it is something that I agree with on my own and regardless of who is playing a guitar on a stage.

I admire Willie and Neil for doing what they are doing with Farm Aid 100% and I hope they keep it up as long as they can. John Cougar and Dave Matthews are funny.
