About Unlocking The Truth
Unlocking the Truth is a young metal band from Brooklyn, New York, who write and create their own lyrics and music. The founding band members are Malcolm Brickhouse (electric guitar) and Jarad Dawkins (drums).
In March of 2012, Unlocking the Truth competed on Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater (aka Tears of Blood) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MQpwEMBIDQ) and made it to the Show-Off Round, and afterward they began performing at festivals around New York City and in Times Square.
Last year Malcolm and Jarad decided they needed a bass player, so they asked their best friend from pre-school, Alec Atkins, to join their band. Even though Alec did not know how to play bass, the boys taught him how to play from scratch.
One of Unlocking the Truth’s biggest breaks came last August after winning the first round of the AfroPunk Battle of the Bands. Although they did not win the final battle, they were still invited to perform at the AfroPunk Festival (www.afropunkfest.com).
As their buzz kept growing, they were given opportunities to perform at the 2013 Fun, Fun, Fun Festival in Austin, Texas and at the NYC film premiere after party of Death Metal Angola (http://www.docnyc.net/film/death-metal-angola/#.UnnEevmsim4).
What’s really exciting is that Unlocking the Truth performed at the 2014 Coachella Music & Arts Festival(http://www.coachella.com); they opened for Guns N’ Roses in Las Vegas; they’re performing at Vans’ 2014 Warped Tour; opening for Queen of the Stone Ages; and they were added to the Heavy Montreal line up.
The band appeared on Totally Biased, Fuse News TV and most recently in a Verizon Wireless commercial. Unlocking the Truthwere featured in the December issue of New York Magazine as the 15th Reason To Love New York; Revolver Magazine,Noisey.Vice.com, Spin.com and they’re being reviewed all over the internet (see PRESS tab above).
Unlocking the Truth has created enough music to complete at least 3 CDs and still counting. In fact, they’re going into the studio in July to record their first EP.
Unlocking the Truth were inspired by Metallica, Slipknot, Disturbed, Living Colour, Chelsea Grin, Motionless in White, Escape the Fate, and many other great bands.
Unlocking the Truth’s goal is to become one of the world’s best metal bands, and with their music, they want people to know that they could do what they want, no matter who they are, or what people say. Just be free as you want to be!
