About Two High String Band
If music were the sky and its players the stars, then its not surprising that one would find the constellations more than a little jealous at the grouping of artists attracted to the hard-driving yet subtle acoustic excellence offered up by the members of Austins Two High String Band.
This acoustic excellence has drawn the likes of David Grisman, Vassar Clements, Tony Trischka, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice, Yonder Mountain String Band and many others to record and/or perform with members of Two High String Band; individually and as a group.
Bandleader Billy Bright and Brian Smith first introduced audiences to their unique brand of acoustic music in the late 90s while attending the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston. But soon after, Billy began touring extensively with Peter Rowan as mandolinist in Peters Texas Trio and then later as a permanent member of The Peter Rowan and Tony Rice Quartet.
The power and unique style of The Two High String Band, in all its subtle forms, hit new heights with the addition of Austin flat-picker Geoff Union. While Bright was still touring with the Rowan and Rice Quartet, Two High String Band put out its first album, Insofarasmuch © 2003 on Blue Corn Music. Based on its success, Bright, Smith, & Union turned their full attention to a national touring schedule.
While touring to support Insofarasmuch a steady stream of new material came forth from which to create the bands next offering, Moonshine Boogie. Each member contributes sizzling instrumental numbers to complement their soulful original ballads; crossing the American musical frontiers of Jazz, Country, Blues, and Bluegrass, with the energy of a rock band and the precision of a finely tuned orchestra. The Two High String Band performs high-energy new acoustic music that will delight traditionalists as well as lovers of modern music and dance alike.
The instrumental excellence and energy of these three players knows no bounds, and to match their collective creative talents with a true innovator in the field, the Two High String Band has paired with world renowned acoustic performer Tony Trischka for their current release Moonshine Boogie © 2006. In support of their new release, The Two High String Band will play at a wide variety of events and with various artists and bands throughout the summer and fall including such events and venues as High Sierra Music Festival, and the International Bluegrass Music Associations Fanfest in Nashville, TN.
