About The Berends Brothers Band
The Berends Brothers Band is brothers Bill Berends (guitars/vocals) and Rich Berends (drums), best known internationally for their progressive rock band MASTERMIND, working with keyboard wizards Jens Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen / Dio / Stratovarius) and Mickey Simmonds (Mike Oldfield / Fish), vocalists Lisa Bouchelle & Tracy McShane, and taking top billing at prog-rock shows and festivals in the USA, Europe & Japan.
In 2007, after two decades of working the international prog scene with Mastermind, the brothers decided to go another route and teamed up with a bassist (John Benussi / Tim Spillane) to hit the regional club scene playing an adventurous blend of vintage rock, blues, fusion, Bill’s originals, plus an occasional Mastermind number or two. This new outfit is looser and more organic than the progressive stylings of Mastermind, based on the the brothers’ love of long form jamming inspired by the music of the late 60’s. In this format The Berends Brothers evoke the golden age of psychedelia in all its glory with a one mind type chemistry rarely seen onstage, culitvated over a lifetime of playing music together.
If Woodstock through the early 70’s era is your idea of music, mixed up with British blues and the occasional progressive jazz-rock fusion blast, then The Berends Brothers Band will surely satisfy. Not limited to one style or genre, Bill also plays with G.Calvin Weston’s Mahavishnu Orchestra tribute band ‘Treasures of the Spirit’ and recently released a solo album of upbeat guitar instrumentals, while Rich drums with a variety of acts from the traditional, old world Philadelphia German Brass Band, to the the Viking folk metal of ‘Frost Giant’. The bothers continue to record as Mastermind for the international prog-rock scene. The Berends brothers bring wide range of musical experience, knowledge, and talent to the table, often inviting friends and guest players up onstage to mix it up. A blend of the familiar and the unexpected always keeps the listener engaged and quite often, up on their feet dancing.
