About Shrimp City Slim
Shrimp City Slim (aka Gary Erwin, b. 1953, Chicago) is a blues pianist/singer/songwriter/bandleader based in Charleston, SC. He has been active on the Carolina blues scene since the mid 1980s. His specialty is “Lowcountry blues & original songs”. SCS performs solo and with his talented band, doing 150+ shows annually throughout the Southeast and overseas. He has released seven CDs (latest: “Dark Road Piano”) and also produces other artists for his label, Erwin Music.
When not performing his own music, he can be found backing up such notable artists as Wanda Johnson (“the New Voice of South Carolina soul & blues”), Beverly Guitar Watkins, Chick Willis, and other luminaries of the American blues tradition. He and Wanda Johnson have become fixtures on the international blues circuit. Her latest CD is “Hold What You Got” (2008), featuring nine songs composed by SCS.
Shrimp City Slim also organizes blues festivals annually in South Carolina, most famously, the Southern Comfort Lowcountry Blues Bash (11 days long) in Charleston, SC every February. 2010 will see the 20th edition of this venerable music festival. Plus many one-off concerts and events having to do with blues and roots music.
If you love blues-flavored original music delivered with commitment, positive energy, and attitude, you will enjoy the work of Shrimp City Slim.
