About McCormack & Yarde Duo
Pianist, Andrew McCormack and Saxophonist, Jason Yarde released their new duo project, MY DUO at the Queen Elizabeth Hall opposite Tord Gustavsen on November 21st as part of the London Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 3 2009. It also marks the first release on Yarde’s JoY aNd EaRs label. As you would expect from writers commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra, both make compositional contributions with some Bernstein and Turnage thrown in for good measure. The music itself is a perfect synthesis of Yarde and McCormacks diverse musical backgrounds creating at times great lyricism with controlled poise, then the pace can snap to white hot with raw energy and spontaneity. The musicians have a long association of working together in many groups, particularly for Dune Music, including those of Gary Crosby and Denys Baptiste. Both are also forging their way as individual composers with ever increasing success and notoriety. Following their Festival appearance, they had orchestral works premiered at Hugh Masekelas 70th Birthday Concert with the LSO in December at the Barbican and theyve been touring the Duo since.
