About Funk N’ Roses
FUNK N’ ROSES combines the over-the-top rock show of Guns N’ Roses with danceable, horn-driven funk!! 80’s attire is worn, various GN’R tunes are jammed out and sprinkled with long, peaking horn solos, and the female incarnation of Axl Rose prowls around the stage in a neverending scene of insanity!
In the Fall of 2011, bassist Brett McConnell and vocalist Aniana Hough were performing together in a popular funk outfit in Portland, OR. While brainstorming ideas for a “musical costume” to perform at the band’s Halloween show, they came up with the idea of performing funky versions of Guns N’ Roses songs while titling the show “Funk N’ Roses.” The band wasn’t too keen to the cover choice (Brett and Aniana were the only GN’R fans in the band) and the show didn’t end up getting booked.
Months later, Brett and Aniana decided to go on with the show anyway! Having spent over three months arranging many songs in the Guns N’ Roses repertoire to be performed with a three-piece horn section, Brett decided to book a show at one of Portland’s best venues, The Goodfoot. The show took place on May 31st, 2012 and included an eight-piece band comprised of some of Portland’s best musicians!
The debut Funk N’ Roses show consisted of two sets; the first being a variety of tunes from Guns N’ Roses’ “Use Your Illusion” albums and “GN’R Lies,” and the second being “Appetite For Destruction” in its entirety. The show was a hit, and you can view the entire debut performance at http://www.audioglobe.com!
In July, 2013, Funk N’ Roses had their second show downtown at the infamous Dante’s club in Portland. The set featured some new members and a different setlist containing all of the greatest Guns N’ Roses songs! FN’R is excited to perform a lot more frequently in 2015 and in the future, so stay tuned!
