About DJ Darek Mazzone
.. I’ve been involved in Music and Culture, for all my life. It’s been pretty amazing and I’ve been able to meet and interview some profoundly amazing artists. Anyone who has done anything of notice musically, within the Global Music space has popped on my show. I get to DJ a ton and love making people dance or just chill to music that they would not hear anywhere else. I’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Thievery Corporation, Cheb I Sabbah, Peter Kruder, J Boogie, Yerba Buena, Santana, DJ Krush, Paul Oakenfold, Ozomatli. I look forward to meeting and playing with many more. I have a couple of singles out, remixes actually. I’m trying to finish a proper album in 2006. in 2004 I coined a term called Modern Global Music. I felt that World Music was a description for a new sound that came out in the 80’s, but it now encompasses way to much music. When you add Global Hip hop to this description, it’s too vague. So Modern Global Music is it. I had a chat with Chris Blackwell of Palm Pictures/Island/Bob Marley fame. He agreed it works. so it works. more info is at www.kexp.org, www.planetbeat.net. www.crossfader.com
