About Bling Kong
Bow to your master when BLING KONG calls! We are the first rock extravaganza built around 4 cheerleaders, 3 drummers, 2 guitarists, bassist and a video Ninja. Were the queens and kings of all things awesome and our foray into world domination begins now, with our first EP Do The Awesome
This phenomenon started when a pile of us got loaded, came up with an idea to design a clothing line and decided to start a band to promote this line. No one really remembers why we needed cheerleaders; it just made sense. And all 3 drummers are absolutely necessary to get yalls asses a-shakin.
Our live performances have become legendary for chaotic, sweaty fun, earning us loads of excellent press and the attention of Redder Records, who begged for the privilege to release Do The Awesome after seeing just one of our sold-out shows in NYC.
Cramming all our epic having-ness onto a disc was a daunting task, but with the help of Dean Baltulonis at Atomic Recording (Andrew W.K., The Hold Steady, Bouncing Souls), we made something that will rip you down the seams.
Lets get epic! This disc is designed to incite rampant make-out; whether at our shows, a parties, or in windowless vans. We tour frequently to encourage the make-out and add to our growing list of rad stories. Sometimes we get hurt, like when sizzler fell off the Knitting Factory stage under a stack of speakers but didnt stop singing. Sometimes, we get epic, like the night we were kicked out of a townie bar after leading a 30-person a capella rendition of Livin On A Prayer.
Sometimes stuff just gets weird, like the night we ended up in some dorm room and made a couple kids massage each other with a can of baked beans as we threw change.
Just touch it! We knew people were beginning to understand what were about when the Philadelphia City Paper wrote that we excel at excess… and the synergistic pomp and pageantry of Andrew W.K., Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Iron Maiden, Spinal Tap and Ziggy Stardust.
Thats exactly the point of Bling Kong. We use these influences (and many others) as raw materials to create something bigger, newer and funner, and give the people a chance to see us get sweaty singing about getting down.
But this is just the beginning. Were be touring this fall in support of Do The Awesome as well as recording a Choose Your Own Adventure rock opera/ full length album due for release this spring. Come out and join us!
