Zach Bryan addressed reaction to a portion of a song he shared on social media he captioned “the fading of the red white and blue,” with lyrics referencing United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The song purportedly titled “Bad News” drew responses from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the White House and others.
Part of the lyrics of the unreleased song include the lines:
I heard the cops came, cocky motherfuckers ain’t they?
And ICE is gonna come bust down your door
Try to build a house, no bills no more
Well I got a telephone
Kids are all scared and all alone
Bryan, who was a member of the U.S. Navy, mentioned his service in the note he posted.
“I served this country, I love this country and the song itself is about all of us coming out of this divided space,” Bryan explained. “I wasn’t speaking as a politician or some greater-than-thou asshole, just a 29-year-old man who is just as confused as everyone else. To see how much shit it stirred up makes me not only embarrassed but kind of scared. Left wing or right wing we’re all one bird and American.”
The partial track drew a response from the White House that incorporated references to several of Bryan’s songs.
“While Zach Bryan wants to Open The Gates to criminal illegal aliens and has Condemned heroic ICE officers,” White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told Newsweek, “Something in the Orange tells me a majority of Americans disagree with him and support President Trump’s great American Revival. Godspeed, Zach!”
DHS posted a video on social media of ICE raids with Bryan’s song “Revival” as the soundtrack. The video was captioned with “We’re having an All Night Revival.” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem also criticised Bryan and what she called the partial song’s “disrespectful” lyrics.
