Yonder Mountain String Band Wraps Guest-Filled New Year’s Run In Boulder

Yonder Mountain String Band celebrated the New Year with four shows in their home state at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado. Spanning December 30 to January 2, the stand was billed as a “Deep-Grass Tracks New Year Celebration” with each night honoring a past decade, beginning with the 1960s on December 30 through the 1990s on January 2. YMSB went it alone on NYE, but the other three shows featured special guests, with Sam Bush joining in the first night, Jerry Douglas on New Year’s Day and Stanley Jordan helping out on the final night of the run.

For the show on December 30, fiddler/mandolinist Sam Bush helped out on such classic 1960s cuts as The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” Dusty Springfield’s “Preacher Man” and Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit.” The guest-less New Year’s Eve performance featured such 1970s favorites as The Stones’ “Torn & Frayed,” Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street,” Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side,” Sister Sledge’s “We are Family” and the Eagles’ “Life In The Fastlane.”

Dobro master Jerry Douglas was on board for the 1980s party on January 1 that included Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train,” Tommy Tutone’s “867-5309/Jenny” and Allie Kral singing lead on Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” YMSB concluded their run with guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan guesting during a show focused on cuts from the 1990s. The January 2 finale saw performances of “Scent Of A Mule” by Phish, “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young and “1979” by The Smashing Pumpkins.
