Yonder Mountain String Band released the single “Suburban Girl,” from their upcoming studio album, Get Yourself Outside. The official music video for the new song premieres exclusively below.
Yonder Mountain String Band will release Get Yourself Outside, which takes its title from a “Suburban Girl” lyric, through Frog Pad Records on February 25. The album is the first recorded with mandolinist Nick Piccininni, who joined his bandmates – guitarist Adam Aijala, fiddler Allie Kral, bassist Ben Kaufmann and banjoist Dave Johnston – for sessions with co-producer/engineer John McVey at Cinder at Sound Studio in Gunbarrel, Colorado. Along with “Suburban Girl,” the 11-track LP features the previously shared singles “Into The Fire” and “If Only.”
Regarding “Suburban Girl,” Johnston told Jambase:
“I’ve always thought that the folk/Americana/bluegrass scene would be like an autobiographical song about skateboarding, the Midwest, and unrequited, angsty teenage emotions, and this is what came out. The band did a great job with the sparse vibe on the final recording and Adam’s vocals kind of do that brother harmony thing that really fills out the choruses nicely.”
The “Suburban Girl” video was directed by animator John Summerson and features stop motion animation by Maggie-Rose Condit-Summerson.
