Yonder Mountain String Band will release their 11th studio album, Nowhere Next, on November 8 through Thirty Tigers. The jamgrass veterans previewed the upcoming album with the lead single “Here I Go,” featuring Jerry Douglas.
YMSB co-founding members – guitarist Adam Aijala, banjoist Dave Johnston and bassist Ben Kaufmann – co-wrote 10 of the 11 songs on Nowhere Next with longtime member, fiddler/mandolin player Nick Piccininni. Fiddler Coleman Smith, who joined Yonder earlier this year, also contributed to the pending album. Dobro master Jerry Douglas appears on three tracks, “Wasting Time,” “Didn’t Go Wrong” and “Here I Go.”
Skiing outlet Powder Magazine premiered the video accompanying “Here I Go.” Pro skier Chris Benchetler stars in the footage produced by Flagship Independent. Benchetler, who co-directed the action sports film Fire On The Mountain soundtracked by the music of the Grateful Dead, met YMSB members at the 2021 GoPro Games.
“Chris is one of the coolest and most supportive people we’ve met through the band,” Adam Aijala told Powder Magazine. “The dude is a legend in so many mediums, but what stands out the most is how genuine he is. Chris and Yonder share and hold a deep appreciation for the Grateful Dead. If not for Jerry Garcia, maybe I’d be in a metal band now.”
