Last night Yonder Mountain String Band opened for The String Cheese Incident at NTELOS Pavilion in Portsmouth, Virginia. During SCI’s headlining performance YMSB was welcomed back to the stage for an extended sit-in.

The String Cheese Incident opened the first of two sets with “Restless Wind,” dotting the rest of the first half with favorites such as “Born On The Wrong Planet,” “The Pygmy Pony,” Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved” and the closer “Beautiful.” When SCI returned for the second set they were joined by YMSB for the opening The Stanley Brothers cover rarity “Think Of What You’ve Done” and stuck around as it transitioned into Bill Monroe’s “Big Mon.” It was still SCI + YMSB for the subsequent collaborative take on the traditional “Blackberry Blossom” that wrapped up the sit-in.

The rest of The String Cheese Incident’s second set saw a cover of “Son of a Preacher Man” sung by Yonder’s Allie Kral, and a sequence that began and ended with “Rollover” which featured “Valley of the Jig,” “Sweet Spot,” “You’ve Got the World,” and “Hotel Window” played within.
