Yonder Mountain String Band honored their late former band mate Jeff Austin and celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of, Elevation, by performing their debut album in its entirety. Dan Rodriguez, Tyler Grant, Jay Cobb Anderson and others joined YMSB during the performance on Friday at the Northwest String Summit in North Plains, Oregon.
Yonder’s set began with “Half Moon Rising,” the Elevation opening track written by Austin that was recently performed by the band in his honor. Rodriguez came out with fiddler Bevin Foley for the Austin-written “Darkness & Light,” and Fruition’s Jay Cobb Anderson added vocals to Austin’s “At The End Of The Day.” Longtime YMSB collaborator, Benny Burle Galloway was brought out to lead his “To Say Goodbye, To Be Forgiven.”
The stage was filled with friends and family during the Joel Lunford-led take on Austin’s “If There’s Still Rambliln in the Rambler” as the mandolin player was toasted with “just one more Jagermeister shot.” Drummer Jay Elliott and keyboardist Asher Fulero assisted on “Complicated” and the set and album-closing performance of “Traffic Jam” featured Grant on guitar.
