Yonder Mountain Pays Tribute To Eric Vandercar In Atlanta

Yonder Mountain String Band :: 2.06.15 :: Variety Playhouse :: Atlanta, GA
The show went on for Yonder Mountain String Band last night at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta despite a case of the flu invading the group’s tour bus. Ben Kaufmann even sang “Jail Song,” which is usually sung by Adam Aijala, as Adam’s voice was hurting from the flu. Kaufmann took a moment during the first set to make a very special dedication to Eric Vandercar, who was killed on Tuesday night when the Metro-North train he was riding collided with an SUV. Ben explained Vandercar’s frequent role as a taper and said the band decided that instead of the usual moment of silence, they wanted the capacity crowd to turn towards the taper section and yell “Shhhhh!!!!” at the same time. We can only imagine Vandercar would’ve gotten a huge kick out of the tribute. Watch the dedication and version of “Train Bound For Glory” after a gallery of photos from last night’s show taken by Ian Rawn.
