Yo La Tengo’s European Tour 2024 landed in Glasgow, Scotland for a concert at SWG3 on Tuesday night. At the end of the show, members of the Glasgow-born band Teenage Fanclub performed alongside the three members of Yo La Tengo.
Guitarists Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley, who co-founded Teenage Fanclub in Glasgow 25 years ago, emerged at the end of the second set. The local auxiliary players accompanied guitarist Ira Kaplan, drummer Georgia Hubley and bassist James McNew on “I Heard You Looking” from Yo La Tengo’s 1993 album, Painful.

After the set ended, the three members of Yo La Tengo began the encore with “Black Flowers” from their 2006 album, I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass. The encore continued with Blake and McGinley brought back for a cover of the garage rock classic by The Seeds “Can’t Seem to Make You Mine.” Hubley moved to the front of the stage to sing lead and a member of the crew played drums while Blake and McGinley assisted on The Byrds’ “I’ll Feel a Whole Lot Better” to close out the show.
Yo La Tengo’s European Tour 2024 heads next to the United Kingdom for a performance on Thursday, August 29 at O2 Academy Leeds. Watch audience-captured video of last night’s concert featuring the members of Teenage Fanclub joining in below:
