Yo La Tengo continued their 8 Nights Of Hanukkah With Yo La Tengo run on Monday at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Lucinda Williams was Monday’s opening act and the singer-songwriter also performed with the headliners. Former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss played a second kit throughout the show that ended with a tribute to Roy Loney featuring Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye and The A-Bones guitarist Bruce Bennett and percussionist Miriam Linna.

Williams followed her rare solo opening performance by joining YLT first on a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Wallflower.” She remained for subsequent covers of The Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes” and T. Rex’s “Get It On.” Comedian/drummer Fred Armisen, who also provided an opening comedy set and was part of Sunday’s show, came out during “Get It On” and stayed for the rest of the set which was made up of “Deeper Into Movies” (with Armisen on keys), “Artificial Heart,” “Sugarcube” and “Mushroom Cloud of Hiss.”

Monday’s encore was a tribute to Flamin’ Groovies frontman Roy Loney, who died earlier this month at the age of 73. Kaye, Bennett and Linna accompanied Yo La Tengo on Flamin’ Groovies’ “Yesterday’s Numbers,” “Teenage Head” and “Slow Death,” as well as “Have You Seen My Baby?” which was written by Randy Newman and appeared on the Teenage Head album. 8 Nights Of Hanukkah With Yo La Tengo continues this evening.
