Yo La Tengo surprised fans with today’s release of new a five-song live EP, The Bunker Sessions. The EP is made up of four songs off their latest album, This Stupid World, plus another longtime favorite.

As its title implies, The Bunker Sessions was recorded by Yo La Tengo at Brooklyn’s the Bunker Studios. Drummer Georgia Hubley, guitarist Ira Kaplan and bassist James McNew (who all play additional instruments), laid down live versions of the This Stupid World tracks, “Sinatra Drive Breakdown,” “Aselestine,” “Fallout” and “Apology Letter.” The session was rounded out with McNew helming “Stockholm Syndrome” from 1997’s I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One.

Yo La Tengo is currently on tour in Japan. The trio will host their annual Hanukkah residency at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom in December and then tour the United States in February of next year.
