Wynonna Judd and Cass McCombs recently announced the formation of a new duo, The Frothy Pit, and debuted the project at a showcase held last week in Nashville during Americanafest. The pair’s set featured a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Ramble On Rose.”

The first collaboration between the two came with the recent release of Wynonna’s new single for ANTI-, “The Child,” which she co-wrote with label mate McCombs. “Like many people, I grew up listening to The Judds,” Cass explained in a statement. “Needless to say, it’s been a real honor to collaborate with Wynonna, co-writing ‘The Child’ together and stepping into the uncharted terrain of The Frothy Pit.”

The Grateful Dead first performed the Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter-penned “Ramble On Rose” on October 19, 1971 and released a live version on their 1972 live album, Europe ’72. Wynonna and Cass swapped lead vocal duties throughout The Frothy Pit’s rendition of “Ramble On Rose” at Nashville’s Mercy Lounge on September 12. “Judd had a great deal to say about her appreciation for the Dead’s Bob Weir,” as per The Nashville Sound’s report from the concert.
