Now, as you can imagine, we’re far away from the point of Lang picking bands to play the potential Woodstock 2019. As Rolling Stone notes, “a band forming tomorrow could conceivably be big enough to headline the 2019 festival by that point,” but Michael Lang is exploring various locations to host the Woodstock anniversary five years from now.
Lang and his partners have put together Woodstock anniversary festivals in the past. Woodstock ’94 featured the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blues Traveler, Primus, The Allman Brothers Band and Bob Dylan performing at Winston Farm in Saugerties, NY -a site that will host The Hudson Project in July. Then there was the infamous Woodstock ’99, which took place in Rome, NY and is more familiar to music fans for the violence, rape and fires that went down at the site than the music.
