Wolfgang Van Halen debuted his new solo band, Mammoth WVH, on Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. Mammoth WVH paid tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen, Wolfgang’s father, with a performance of “Distance.”
The band features Wolfgang on guitar and lead vocals, guitarists Frank Sidoris and Jon Jourdan, bassist Ronnie Ficarro and drummer Garrett Whitlock. Mammoth WVH will release their self-titled debut album through EX1 Records/Explorer1 Music Group on June 11.

Wolfgang initially premiered “Distance” in November, one month after Eddie Van Halen died after a lengthy battle with cancer. “As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him,” Wolfgang said of his debut single. “While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life.”
Mammoth WVH assembled remotely for their “Distance” performance. While Wolfgang recorded Mammoth WVH himself, he’s aiming to tour behind the album with his full band.
