Willie Nelson Covers Beck, Flaming Lips, Neil Young & More On 152nd Album ‘Last Leaf On The Tree’

At 91 years young, Willie Nelson isn’t done yet. Not only is the iconic musician on the road with his traveling Outlaw Music Festival but he also has a new album on the way entitled Last Leaf On The Tree and shared its title track.
Last Leaf On The Tree, Willie’s 152nd album and second of 2024, is due on November 1 via Sony Legacy. Produced and curated by Willie’s son Micah Nelson, the 14-track collection goes heavy on covers from a diverse array of artists and also includes a reworked take on one of his oldest songs and a new tune penned with Micah.

The outlaw country legend looked all the way back to 1962 to reimagine “The Ghost” for Last Leaf On The Tree. Micah co-wrote the album’s “The Color Of Sound” with his father. Covers include The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize??,” Neil Young’s “Are You Ready For The Country?,” Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me In Your Heart,” Robbie Robertson’s “Broken Arrow” and Beck’s “Lost Cause.”
Willie Nelson is joined on Last Leaf On The Tree by his longtime Family Band harmonica player Mickey Raphael. The follow-up to The Border also includes appearances from The Doors' John Densmore and Daniel Lanois.
The gorgeous “Last Leaf” opens the forthcoming record and is vintage Willie. Nelson tenderly sings the Tom Waits tune about a life well lived and his staying power. Listen to Willie Nelson’s “Last Leaf” below:
