William Tyler Shares ‘Man In A Hurry’ Video & Confirms May/June 2019 Tour Dates
Guitarist William Tyler recently debuted the music video for “Man In A Hurry.” The song appears on his 2019 Merge Records studio album Goes West and features cameos from Meg Duffy of Hand Habits and USA Olympic Skateboarding team member Cory Juneau. Tyler also confirmed a series of North American tour dates scheduled for May and June.
The Los Angeles-via-Nashville musician tapped his sibling Elise Tyler to put together the “Man In A Hurry” video. Read background on the video shared by Elise:
“16mm, Super 8, MiniDV, iPhone… these are the formats we used to film the video for ‘Man in a Hurry.’ Each camera represents a different era of ‘point and shoot’ video capture, and together, they weave a curious portrait of how we document our world. For me, using multiple formats was an exercise in resourcing—how do you use precious 16mm film stock (answer: all of William’s performances) versus iPhone (answer: everyday documentation on the fly). In the edit, the narrative began to appear—it was about the “man” in the song title, and exploring the theme of urgency in his world. Each character represents this man, in various stages of a pressing act: the firefighter on the job, the carefree, aimless ride of a kid on a bicycle, or the skater attempting to land a trick. We were lucky enough to get Cory Juneau to skate for us—he is on the USA Olympic Skateboarding team—and he will hate that I made it into a montage of his failed attempts. But I think there is something really beautiful in his determination.”
Tyler will soon head to Europe for a series of shows. First, he’ll take part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session on Tuesday, April 16 at 3 p.m. ET. Once William gets back he’ll start a string of U.S. dates at the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma, California on May 11. From there, the guitarist/composer plays Seattle, Portland (Oregon) and Santa Barbara later in the month. In June, he’ll follow an appearance at the Agave Festival with shows in New York City on the 5th; Provincetown, Massachusetts on the 7th; Rockport, Massachusetts on the 8th and Burlington, Vermont on the 9th. William Tyler is also aboard for Desert Daze Nights and Merge’s MRG30 in July.
