Wilco Honors Tom Petty With ‘The Waiting’ Cover In Texas

Wilco concluded a run of shows in Texas on Tuesday with a performance at The Pavilion At Toyota Music Factory in Irving. The band kicked off the first of two encores by debuting a cover of “The Waiting” in honor of the late Tom Petty.

One night prior in San Antonio, frontman Jeff Tweedy mentioned he was holding out hope for the famed rocker as Petty was clinging to life in a Santa Monica hospital during Wilco’s Monday night performance. “The Waiting” came as part of a 29-song performance near Dallas that featured two lengthy encores. While Wilco had never played “The Waiting” before, the band did cover “Listen To Her Heart” in their early days.
