Courtney Barnett Joins Wilco During Karaoke Set At Solid Sound

Wilco performed a set of live band karaoke on Friday night at their Solid Sound Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts. Fellow solid sound performer Courtney Barnett was among the guest vocalists that fronted the band during the karaoke portion of the set.

Wilco held a contest leading up to Solid Sound to find 10 winners to front the band during the karaoke set. The winning men and women sang (and some played guitar as well) classic Wilco songs while the lyrics were displayed on large screens behind the band. Among the selected songs were “Nothing’severgonnastandinmyway(again),” “Heavy Metal Drummer,” “Poor Places,” “Dawned on Me” and others including one woman leading a cover of Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You in the End.”

Yuka Honda (Wilco guitarist Nels Cline’s wife) was onstage for “We Aren’t the World (Safety Girl)” and frontman ’s son Sammy Tweedy sang “I’m Always In Love.” Barnett came out at the end of the karaoke set to sing and add guitar to “Handshake Drugs.” The band continued displaying the lyrics to the songs they played during the encore that featured such favorites as “Jesus, Etc.” and “California Stars.”
