Widespread Panic wrapped a three-night run at St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, Florida on Sunday. Each setlist contained a cover from Florida native Tom Petty culminating with a debut of “Room at the Top” last night.
The St. Augustine run marked Widespread Panic’s first shows since January after having to cancel a Chicago run due to “unexpected health issues.” Healed up, Panic delivered a trio of shows at St. Augustine Amphitheatre over the weekend. The run celebrated the late great Tom Petty — who hailed from Gainesville, Florida about an hour and a half away from St. Augustine — with covers of “Running Down a Dream” and “Honey Bee” on Friday and Saturday respectively.

WSP launched Sunday’s show with a three-song seamless sequence of staples “Rebirtha,” “Little Lilly” and “Henry Parsons Died.” Standalone renditions of “Cotton Was King” and “B of D” followed. Panic then paired up “Bear’s Gone Fishin’” and “C. Brown” before capping the first frame with “Halloween Face.”
Set two began with favorite “Chilly Water.” Next, “Greta” segued into “Dear Mr. Fantasy.” WSP last played the Traffic classic on January 14, 2023 at their Panic en la Playa destination event in Mexico for a gap of 48 shows, as per PanicStream.
After sandwiching “Drums” within “Surprise Valley,” a “Party At Your Mama’s House” served up “Ribs and Whiskey.” A standalone cover of Talking Heads’ “City of Dreams” then prefaced a set-closing sequence of the recently revived “Fishing” and “Tall Boy” to seal the second set.
Widespread Panic opened the encore with the premiere of Tom Petty’s “Room At The Top.” The song opens Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ 1999 album, Echo.
Frontman John Bell handled the beginning of the slow-burner with the band — bassist Dave Schools, keyboardist JoJo Hermann, drummer Duane Trucks, percussionist Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz and guitarist Jimmy Herring — surging in behind him on the song’s dynamic peaks. Widespread Panic capped the concert and run with the beloved “Porch Song.”
